What is the difference between a Baptist and Anabaptist?
Wouldn't the Reformers see them as the same?
The Reformers would see them as the same to be sure but at at that time in history a very strict orthodoxy was held to.

The word Anabaptist simply means rebaptizer. Now there is a great difference between Baptists and Anabaptists.

Anabaptists today include those such as the Mennonites, Amish and others who tend to separate themselves from the world.

So it is kinda like Anabaptists of today are a hyper pietistic sect of Baptists?

They have a lot of similarities but are still very different.

Both hold to the fundamental doctrines of Christianity and practice credobaptism and sola scriptura.

Baptists believe people are saved through faith alone. Idk about Anabaptists. I think they pretty much also believe in sola fide but put much more emphasis on works and discipleship. They also have lean Arminian and maybe Semipelagian (I could be wrong about that last one.)

Baptists baptize by full immersion while Anabaptists use pouring. So while they have the same beliefs about baptism, their methods are different.

Anabaptists are pacifists and that is part of their doctrine while a Baptist is a pacifist from personal conviction.

Anabaptists believe in separation from the world, but to varying degrees depending on the type while Baptists will live in the world.

Baptists are essentially a blend of Anabaptist and Puritan.
