  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

hard to summarize exhaustively,

"If you love Me, you will keep my Commandments ..."

through the Holy Spirit to keep what He taught through iteration and example, as also 'outlined' in the Beatitudes ... that the image may be restored and move toward the likeness (to use particular terminology)
the emphasis is not the you will, but the love me part. If you love then keeping the commandments will happen, not keeping the commandments will show love.

if you cannot discern the truth in a human type way, and you rely on Spirit to lead you then you are not just up and doing whatever... right?
Everybody claims the Spirit leads them - everybody from Catholics to people in wacky cults.
Who is right?

sure, but if YOU are letting the Spirit lead you why does what other people say He is doing matter? YOU know what He says to YOU. ??? Your influence as a person without even sharing the gospel in actual words should be enough to evidence who He is in you, shouldn't it? Not to mention, if He speaks through you, your words would be assertive and the right ones, because He's doing it. ?? I fail to see how one could be mistaken who was speaking at that poing.

Does God tell different believers different and contradicting things? Does he, for example, tell me that Baptism is a Sacrament, and tell you that it is an unnecessary work of man?

why does it matter what I believe if YOU know what YOU believe is right from Him (and not someone teaching you)?

Nope...but the enemy sure tells lies. He has done since He lied to Adam and Eve in the Garden...telling them they could be God-like if they only did a certain something (when in reality, they were already like God...created in His image).

So let's see...someone created in God's image...being told they have to do something so that they could be more God-like....now what does that sound like??? Sounds like religion to me. :)

EDIT: Poof! The Gospel.

I guess you could say everybody...but do a different degree.

But really, I'd have to say that there is no actual right and wrong....there's only Jesus, and how undistorted our image of Him is. We don't look to the Spirit of Christ to lead us to "right" or "moral" living (...and which religious denomination has that the best)...we look to His Spirit to simply lead us to miraculous, Christian living (...manifesting the life of Christ).

So who is "right"? I guess I'd say those who more often than not will end up exhibiting the life of Christ in their actions. Interestingly enough though, I seem to find (in my experience anyways) that there are some pretty major common threads in most of these people's view of Christ.

Hey there Elsan.
well, really, that was not the lie, the lie was that they would not die.

?

...yep, exactly. God doesn't die. ;)

they did become more like God, and even He said so Himself.

There's a difference in becoming more like God in a knowledgeable sense and in a spiritual sense. The point was though that they needn't have concerned themselves with knowing things from the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, but to simply keep living in a trusting unison with God (out of a tree of Life). ;)

but as the author of Genesis notes, they were created in His image, but does not say they were yet in His likeness (or would they have fallen ?)
so created in His image, towards or to the likeness ... what is in between ?
