I'm wondering whether to get baptised. I was Christened as a baby and I always thought that was it. But I started going to a new church last September and there they believe it's only relevant if you are baptised as an adult.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My OWN view is that baptism is God's act and therefore is valid, but if your new church believes otherwise, then go for it.

I was raised in a church that believes in infant baptism. As an adult, I got saved and no longer believe that infant baptism is worth anything other than a dedication. My whole family has now been dunked. It's an obedience thing.Dracus said:

I believe it doesn't matter if your baptised as an infant or an adult. Having said that one of the things that you may want to consider is if you are planning on staying at that church for some time is do they have a rule which says you can't be involved in ministry or leadership if you haven't been baptised as an adult. If they don't have such a rule then what ephraimanesti said is the best advice anyone could give IMO.Carlinsey said:

Baptism is symbolic ; symbolic of the new birth, of the cleansing of our souls from sin by dying with Christ and becoming a new creature. Whether its infant baptism or adult, it is only symbolic.
The reality is our faith in Christ and daily obedience to Him in thought and behaviour : being good, kind, loving...So IMO, it doesn't really matter enough to have to re-do baptism again and again in an effort to get the symbolism right! First one argues about whether infant baptism is valid, then whether adult baptism by sprinkling is valid, then whether one has to be immersed once or three times...!!! There is more than an element of legalism in all this.
Relax, and enjoy your walk with Christ.

The other thing to look at also is as a baby or young child its not you making the decision, its your parents. To follow the words from the bible mentioned by the pastor, it is when we are in full understanding of what we are doing, and then using our own will we decide to repent and be baptised.
