  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Two of my friends (Jeremy and his wife Jennefer) recently started a business. They underestimated how much capital they would need to keep the business going until they turned a profit. They are facing bankruptcy if they do not find an investor very soon.

The business is a cash advance / payday loan business. I know people have mixed feelings about these types of businesses, as did I. However, talking with Jennefer last week, she said that it was like God just put everything into place for them to be able to get started. They have also actually been able to help people in need of some cash when they cannot get a loan from a bank or anyone else. No, it's not a charity organization, but they have wanted to start a business for some time now and this seemed like a really good start for them.

My prayer is not without personal concern as well. I was one of their investors in the company. If they go bankrupt, I will be out a little money, but nothing I cannot make up in a few months of work. However, they will lose their house, their credit cards, everything they have worked for up to this point, and they will have to start over. Jeremy is 34, Jennefer is 26, so they're young enough that bankruptcy and starting over will not be as bad as for someone that is in their 50's. But going bankrupt is not on anyone's wish list I'm sure.

I've been praying and praying that someone will invest, but they have not found someone that can commit yet. If they do not find someone by the end of the week, it is all probably over for them. My prayer is that someone can commit with an investment and the business can continue until it supports itself.

Maybe that is not God's will. If it is not, then I missed what His will is when I decided to invest in the first place. If I hadn't invested, then they wouldnt' be here now in the business on the verge of bankruptcy. My thoughts and emotions are in a bit of turmoil over all of this. I know money is far from the most important thing in life, but it's a necessary thing to get by in the world we live in. If they go bankrupt, I know how bad I feel and will feel for them; I cannot imagine the burden they will be under.

I have helped them financially as much as I am able up to this point. All I can do now is pray. Your thoughts and prayers are very welcome through all of this.

You're a good friend to invest in your friend's bussiness. In God's plans money is probably not a big concern given the scope of the world in general. I admire your attitude that you will make up your investment in a couple of months. It is honerable that you are not flipping out, even though you are conflicted.

Its only me but in my mind I do not see God giving much concern of a payday loan bussiness. You may be searching for God's will and why he might have directed you to invest in a company that may or will fail. It could be something simple. It could be that is what your friends needed to do to learn and to finally be successful. Failure is a great teacher really. And so your "investment" may turn into a gift. I'm sure that's a little agrovating. I do not know what will happen or if your friends will get someone to invest in them, but I will pray. I hope you can forgive them if they fail, though from your tone it sounds like you wouldn't have any problem there.

I really do hope that everything turns out well and your friends get an investor, have a good one,

One thought, maybe God wanted you to loose the money for some reason. Sometimes God takes us places to show us that we don't need to be there. Not saying this is the case for you now, but I know it has happened in my past. I do pray that God will provide a way for you and for your friends.

I know myself because I too had to file for bankruptcy after giving some scam people who said that I would win a lot of money so many dollars to get my "check" as they kept begging me that lead me to a nervous breakdown. Now I can't use credit cards for seven years and I also pledged not to use them for seven years myself. Beginning on 9/9/04 & so far I am ok but it will be tempting though.
