  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok strange question.

I've got a few birds, but today my wife wanted to put some Balloons in the office for me when I get home, and the Birds freaked !

It turns out Polly (the Conure) is scared like mad of balloons, any one ever hear of this

My budgies were in the room when I was blowing up balloons before I had polly, and didnt react unless the balloon came right next to them, but now.. When polly freeks, they also freek.

hi pgp and happy birthday to you first. you know what? this does not seem that odd.have they ever seen a balloon before? has one ever popped around them? we have a 4 month old cockatiel that(we thinks a female) seems to be alarmed by mylar balloons.really, this are bird phobias and i was wondering if they can be worked through it.they seem to be echoing the leader.birds never cease to amaze me. I guess they have seen balloons,so their reacting to the one birds actions.that may just be their alarm system. My husband may know why your reacted this way more than me but it is silly..i see what you're saying

Parrots are wild animals kept in captivity by means of wide-open habitats (bars) and often clipped feathers ... this behavior is not odd, strange, or reverseable. Birds are frightened of helium-filled balloons; imagine a great big floating "something" just pop up in front of you, and your instinct to flee can't even be met! This combination makes ballons an absolute, no-excetions no-no for anyone who shares their home with a parrot. An ave's fear of ballons is so well known that the person you got them from should have been decent and knowledgeable enough to have shared with you before day one.

Most parrots will accept new things readily with proper introduction, but rare is the bird that accepts a helium balloon. Keep them out of your bird's home.

Blessings,
awashinlove
