I got to the very end of NWN and never finished it. I kind of got bored with it. Although I did enjoy it for a while. I can't wait until RPG's really move beyond what they have been offering so far.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. For me, I would like a little more plot depth, and a little more creative and complex AI, etc. The Balder's Gate series was a little too frantic for me, with all the characters to control, and all the side quests. I'd rather have something that was a little more individual-hero-centered, with similar gameplay and more of a personal quest(perhaps with a few sides), rather than just some cookie-cutter plot to follow with a million other quests concerning the interests of other people in your party.

I am a huge fan of the Icewind Dale series. I love games with tons of micromanagement and customization. I prefered the story line from the first game though the second one was obviously more polished.

The one thing that irked me was that the game didn't support high resolutions like the 1600x1200 I am used to. I would really like to see Black Isle make another 2d game, because those always seem to have more quality in their stories, interface, and combat systems. Plus they don't make my graphics card dance the Sadness Dance that NWN made it.

I dont think one can compare Neverwinter Nights with Baldurs Gate/BGII/IcewindDale/etc. I think what bioware is doing with NWN is not only bring an RPG in a 3d rendered enviroment but also it attempts to layer a live real time action system over top the AD&D turns based system. Thus the original SP mission tends to lean itself more toward Hack & Slash than roleplay. However, due to the very easy to use toolset wich comes with the game there are a ton of new modules that are really good. Whether you want a more roleplay type game to basic Hack & Slash.

I have to admit, I too got a little bored on the single player mission but once I started d/l the modules and started creating module myself its a whole new ballgame. That said, I would recommend to try some of the various modules and maybe even try the toolset to create your own before completly dismissing the game:sorry:. and of course playing on-line or LAN with others is always more fun.......

Has anyone else ever played Planescape:torment? its another Bioware RPG game thats a little off the wall but really fun. I think it might be out of print now but I found my copy in a discount software bin at one of the major stores. anywho if your looking for a good singleplayer RPG thats a bit different than BG/NWN but still based on the 2nd Addition AD&D rules. you might wanna check it out....

Namaste,

yep.. played it and didn't like it. i thought that they did a poor job in bringing the Planescape to the PC... it is a decent single player RPG though... it just didn't play right for me...

perhaps that because i was, concurrently, playing BG2 :)

in NWN..... i'm all about the monk... surpising, no? :)

I liked BG2 the best because of the character interaction. I was very dissapointed with NWN because it was one character only.

Perhaps online play is what they had in mind...but for us single players, I loved BG2 and how the other characters would fall in love with your character, etc.

Yes, I agree that is what mostly dissapointed me about NWN as well wich is why I still BG and think of them as 2 completly different games.....
