  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was looking through my subscriptions and noticed one from last year in GT that was started by Visionary has be resurrected once again. Would God eat a ham sandwich?

As I read the replies my heart is heavy and my stomach revolts.
Mine too, but that's because I was raised as a vegetarian.

Bacon may cause cancer, but it doesn't mean you defile your soul by eating it.

All livestock in the united states are fed an unnatural unhealthy diet, you have to go to an alternative farmer to get healthy food.

Cows are not meant to eat corn in mass quantities.
Chickens are not meant to have their beaks clipped and be force fed whatever that stuff is.

But bacon on everything is getting out of hand, I agree.

Did the Father create one soul of its kind just to be "food" for another more powerful kind of soul that was given the upper hand in his creation? Along the same lines; do you think that fish with scales have/are living souls? for certainly the great sea creatures with "skins" have/are living souls. Just curious. :)

Whether or not God made some animals to be food as part of his plan in creation, I can only say that he did give man dominion over the animals and he did give them to Noah for food.

All animals have a soul of some sort. I don't think there is any major difference between the the souls of most animals, some animals have a conscious soul, others don't. I don't think shellfish are conscious, but perhaps an octopus is.... I don't know. But I don't need to know.

But the point I was making is that the human soul is not defiled by what he eats. Unless you're convicted to follow Torah, whereas I do not have that conviction over Torah dietary laws. If you defile your own conscience, you defile your soul.

One exception to this I see though is cannibalism. But even then, if you ate human flesh unknowingly I don't see this as a defilement of the soul.

Are you speaking of swimming mammals (seals, whales, dolphins,) or just all that don't have scales?

Sharks don't have scales but aren't mammals either, I would never think a shark has a soul.

Where do you think your 'conscience' comes from?

For the rest, Noah was told by G-d what food meant, as Yeshua also knew what F00d meant to G-d as well as those he taught.

Not all animals were made for the same function.

You keep removing the oceans cleaning system and eventually it dies. And in doing this you upset the whole balance of the planet.

Um - isn't that a misnomer?

Forgive me, because I know this is an older post, but it reminds me of a woman my sister works with. She was raised in an Orthodox (in terms of family lineage) home, but they celebrated Xmas instead of Hanukkah. She went to Hebrew school and was Bat Mitzvahed, but they didn't keep a kosher kitchen at home. In fact, just this past Yom Kippur, she called her mother in California and asked if she forgot to fast (as she had forgotten, herself). Her mother said, "fast?! I'm the worst Jew ever! I'm making pork Shake 'n Bake tonight!" Not only had she forgotten it was the Day of Atonement, she was making pork for dinner. Of course, my sister's co-worker considers herself an atheist Jew. *shrugs*

I read an article recently that more Jewish people in America are okay with atheists identifying as Jewish than they are Jewish people saying they believe Yeshua is the Messiah. That Judaism is becoming more and more a cultural identifier rather than a religious one. I don't know if that's true overall, but that was what the survey by the Pew Research Center indicated.

Yes, I believe that the Jewish cultural identifier is not so much religious as an identifiable group of people. Muslim countries have a better chance of being a religious group within their ethnic groups than the Jews.

When getting off work the other night I was hungry and the only place open was McDonalds. I don't particularly like McD's but I was hungry. I thought I would get one of the new burgers but could not remember the name of it. When I got to the drive through the light was out on the outdoor menu and I could not see the list of burgers. So I said to the voice box "it's one of the new burgers but not the one with pork in it". She replies with "oh it must be the (don't remember what she said) burger, there's no pork". I said ok, please tell me what's in it. The first item she listed was "bacon". I said "maam, bacon is pork". We finely figured it out and I got my burger w/o the pork.

The obsession I think is just in my opinion a show of our flesh controlling us (especially when it comes to our stomachs). I'm reminded of a pastor I once had who would quote Paul on "buffeting the flesh" which Paul meant to control the flesh instead of it controlling us but the pastor was referring to the restaurant buffet.

Most people I come in contact with just don't want to think that they must give up something. God is brought to our level of thinking and living. There are some who actually think that the marriage supper of the lamb will include a pig....seriously! Our churches today have been so misinformed. :(

It is such a joy to see that many in the churches are now 'seeing' what we Messianics saw. Hashem is speaking to them, "...come out of her..." and so many are hearing and obeying! Such a wonderful thing!

Shalom Aijalon, thank you for your reply, (what HaShem actually says to Noah is debatable). :)

Are you speaking of swimming mammals (seals, whales, dolphins,) or just all that don't have scales?

Sharks don't have scales but aren't mammals either, I would never think a shark has a soul.

Shalom Lulav, I simply meant "skins" in a general way for a variety of larger species of sea life and was not meaning to be specific. The great sea creatures, (Genesis 1:21 tanniynim gadolim) certainly have/are nephesh-chay living souls. We see in general that the greater sea creatures have "skins" like whales, porpoises, dolphins, etc., and yet the "swarmers" or swarming schools of fish, (with scales) were made specifically as food for the greater sea creatures. Therefore I do not believe that fish in general have/are living souls and likewise we see the blood exemption concerning fish and locust with the fact that Yeshua provided/multiplied and ate fish himself while Yochanan ate locust, (I do not count those passages as speaking of the beans they call "locust"). However, neither Yochanan nor Yeshua is ever stated to have eaten any other "meat" apart from Yeshua breaking bread, (which is often called "meat") and thus the Creator, at least in the beginning, did not make the lesser kinds of living souls specifically to be food for the more powerful living souls which were given more dominion in creation, (IMO).

Most people I come in contact with just don't want to think that they must give up something. God is brought to our level of thinking and living.

Shalom SpiritPsalmist, so true! (in many more ways than one)

In the UK they have run experiments using a glow in the dark substance at certain places on pigs to allow them to monitor something or other (can't recall actual details now). It has been done with snails, too, to see where they roam, and how far they go.

Trip to the market yesterday and I saw some Bacon potato chips on the shelves. Eww, talk about fat on fat, heart attack chips they should call them!

Also saw some Bacon Soap in a specialty shop over the holidays. I guess it's not enough to eat bacon in as many ways as you possibly can but now you have to bathe yourself in it so you even smell like a pig!

I just wanted to add that I agree it's almost a trend. Mostly with the 15-25 crowd. I have friends in the younger adult crowd and they are seriously all about some bacon. I mean, I can't check my facebook newsfeed without seeing atleast two "memes" about bacon or pictures of a "bacon wrapped bacon bit sandwich on bacon bread" <--( NOT kidding, there was a picture of this with an LOL under it)
It's like, bacon is some kind of fashion statement. I don't get it and I'm still in my 20's and count myself to be pretty "up on trends"!
