China killed 1 million piglets from a similar virus, I wonder how many will meet the same fate in the US? And what do they do with all those bodies?

Tens of thousands{if not 100's of thousands} of pigs are being dumped into rivers and water ways, that's what they do with them and its causing a great concern because of it.

Where in the world would they be dumping them in waterways? Sheesh.......I would think that even third world countries aren't that third world anymore....

What do you think is the root of this obsession?

I think it has a lot to do with the industry and how much they pay to promote their product. It creates a trend or a fad.
For instance, pomegranate - its been the "in" thing for a few years now and turns up in everything.

A few years ago the pork industry started advertising pork as "the new white meat."
And Americans love their ham and bacon. (Well, except those of us who gave it up.)

The mixing of swine with other meats also confuses me, seeing as so many consumers (ie muslims) have restrictions on this meat as well.
Why make meat patties, sausages, etc from different types of meat?
There's probably some pragmatic answer, but you'd think they'd sell more by not doing this.

You have to be careful with frozen dinners, too. For instance, I used to buy - it was either Marie Callender's or Stouffer's turkey dinner to take for lunch. One day I was reading the ingredients and realized the gravy had bacon grease in it!! Never again and now I always read ingredients on things like that.

Or, just look for the certified hecksher. Much easier to just check for that.

I don't think my supermarket sells anything with a certified hecksher.

So far, only Cohen's. But I'm thinking that company may be local, I'm not sure.

More than a week since authorities in Shanghai started pulling thousands of dead pigs from one of the city’s major waterways, the Huangpu River, municipal authorities in that city of 23 million are continuing to pull hundreds of carcasses from its waterways each day, bringing the total since last week to over 13,000.
Workers on Sunday pulled nearly 500 pigs from the Huangpu, bringing the total found from that river alone to over 9,500. The Huangpu River supplies over a fifth of Shanghai’s drinking water.

This was the middle of March and it has continued.

I frequent another forum where the "believers" there swear that "bacon-wrapped-bacon" is the ultimate dish.

Also, on this thread, they have literally tens of thousands of pics displaying their atrocities with swine. I tried once to quote Isa. 65 and 66 to them, but it rang on deaf ears. Only YHWH can turn us from the abominable to the truth.

Try looking for Amy's, they are kosher, vegan, non GMO, and organic. And very good. I get the Gluten free kind and like all I've tried. They also make soups too (canned). They have Indian and Mexican dishes as well as Italian and American so there is a large choice.

Yes, and it seems to be getting worse, have you noticed, everything nowadays is sold with a side of bacon.

Even shellfish which when I was growing up it was a major night out and expensive to have a lobster dinner, now it's everyday fare in many places and there are even chain restaurants devoted to it. Red Lobster for instance. There aren't too many eateries that don't have at least one shrimp dish on the menu, if not dozens.

At that other place you frequent, why not try a more subtle approach, if they allow a signature, put something like

"I believe in the Messiah who came to free me from my sins against G-d, not the one who freed me to eat things he wouldn't even eat".

This is a nice approach. I might try that.

I only present Isa. 65 & 66 to others because they are so clear on YHWH's views about those that break His dietary laws. YHWH also used those passages to free me from my own disobedience in this area.

Oh yes! I've had Amy's things lots of times. I just hadn't realized they were kosher.

I have been guilty of being very preachy about pork and shellfish in the past, then some time later, in secret...

gave into temptation and had a burger with added bacon at Burger King.

Then, even worse - buying a pack at the grocery store hoping no one would see me!

Currently, I am pork free and have been for many months.

So I can do this again. And this , and pretend to be this:

I once made some "tofu bacon" (tofu marinaded and dehydrated) and my friends loved it! Alas...I cannot find the recipe.

If I should find it, I'll try to remember this thread.
