Saturday, October 10th marks my return to school... again! I finally finished up my AA degree through Everett CC (what a nightmare!!!) this Summer and am now attending City University (Everett campus) in their alternate route to teaching program. Since I'm a paraeducator at a local middle school (in my third year) I was able to take advantage of this two-year program that will give me my K-8 and special education endorsments. I'm VERY excited, but this comes at a price... Every Saturday (and Thursday and some Tuesdays) I will be taking classes from about 8:00AM to 3:00PM. So this means no more Flying Heritage Collection fly days next summer, few airshows, and NO more aerobatic club meetings for the next two years.
This makes me sad but the reward in the end will be well worth the sacrifice. Before I had this job I never know I could have so much fun while still being on the ground. It is so great working with these kids!
It is a really neat program they have there and the fact I get a $16,000 GRANT helps a lot too. My dad, being in education for 35 years, is also one of the professors and advisors for this program, so it will be really interesting having a class or two with him.
I will still be flying every now and then, as there are several teachers at the SMS who want to go on some scenic flights and to learn more about aviation, so that will be fun. Plus they will split the cost so I can actually afford to go up.
Two years from now I will have my own classroom with airplanes hanging everywhere, airplane pictures, and all kinds of fun things for whatever subject I end up teaching. (Hopefully math or science!)
Wish me luck!!
