I've reduced the "find own posts" limit down from 500 to 200.

This is because of the increased load on the database server. Let's see how that goes.

FYI, I don't know if it's this feature or what, but today (this afternoon in particular) the site has been extremely slow for me. I click a thread from my UserCP and it has taken sometimes upwards of 30 seconds for it to even move to the new page. Other sites I visit work just fine.

The past couple of days that the feature has been back, I've noticed nothing like this happening. So it could very well be something completely unrelated. Just thought I would pass it on.

Yeah, according to one bandwidth test, I am at 3.4 mbits per second right now, yet this site is taking 60-90 seconds to load a page.

Well, it's the search feature. That's the side effect of it.

It's working fast as a whip now. It was much much slower earlier when I posted. I suppose it's a function of how many people are online and using the search function. Only 562 on right now.

Like I said, the past few days it wasn't slowing down at all for me - just this afternoon for a while. In my personal opinion, I am willing to trade an occasional slowness in the site for the ability to search posts. That's just me, but it's worth it to me.

I've done some tweaks to the database config - we'll see how things go.

Wow. 14 online. That's the least I've ever seen. (See attached pic.)

It looks like the way to speed things up is to slow them down with the search, then people leave, then it's fast again because nobody's here. I'm not sure that's productive though. My suggestion is that if the search function continues to slow things down, it be removed, complaints notwithstanding. People can live without the search thing, but if this site is as slow as it was earlier today, nobody will want to come here, I'm afraid.

If we can have the search with speed, great. If speed must be sacrificed for the search, I'd leave the search function out. Those are my thoughts.

If you see a low member's count, it means I've rebooted the database server which cuts off everyone's connection to the database.

I have no problem with speed today or yesterday, but I have cable. (it's about the same price as DSL here)

Wow, I'd just gotten used to not being able to search, but this is great. I'm with TSIBHOD, though: Speed > Search.

With 1300 members on now, it seems to be going as fast as ever. Sweet.

The site has been slow in patches for me. It seems to get slow when there are more than 1700 users on. I have a fast connection so the problem is not me and other sites load just fine.
