  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was going to do this months ago, but I never did. I want to teach my son some signs that he can't say yet but wants to, and I looked in my books and I can only find a few. Can someone please tell me where I can find some free websites with some signs? Milk and food and something like "play with me" would be very helpful.

I've seen books at the book store or maybe try the library. You can make up your own signs. As long as you and your family know what they are it won't matter if they're correct unless you're planning on continuing to teach him sign language as he gets older.

My son was a fluent baby signer. He was quite the 'side show' wherever he visited. My daughter had little interest so she never went beyond a few signs.

I used to have a number of sites marked. I really like ASL sites because I wanted them to carry a 'real' language through

Born2Sign - video showing how to do the signs http://www.signwithme.com/002_browse_signs.asp

MSU's quicktime dictionary with quite a few words
http://commtechlab.msu.edu/sites/aslweb/browser.htm

depending on far you want to take the signing and how interested your little one is, you can also buy a pocket ASL dictionary fairly cheap. I carried one with my son and we made great use of it.

My son was mildly speech delayed and started speech therapy at about 20 months. The first thing his therapist taught him was a little sign language. It was so helpful in helping him to communicate and lessening his frustration. He is now caught up speech-wise and was released from therapy today (he's 2 1/2 and was testing at a 4 year old level, excuse the proud mother moment).
I only wish I had started him on the signing earlier. With our next, we'll probably try to do signing sooner.
