Bruce Jenner Is Not A Hero

I generally try to steer clear of controversial issues on here. Most are so deeply embedded in presuppositions that writing about them generally just generates more anger and frustration than meaningful discussion. However, I never want to shy away from speaking something that needs to be said even if I know it is not something people want to hear. So, I want to talk about Bruce Jenner.

Today, Bruce Jenner appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair, dressed as a woman and introducing himself to the world as “Caitlyn Jenner.” You see, he has decided that he is a woman and that by saying it and probably some very extensive surgery, he can make it so. In today’s world, we think gender is something we get to choose, like our career path or our clothes. So, people across the nation have lauded him as a hero. Certainly, this is the current opinion of the masses, but I have to say it. The emperor has no clothes and Bruce Jenner is not a woman.

You can tell me that there is a difference between gender and sex, that Bruce was born with a male body and a female soul, but I would ask where did he get this soul? If there is no God, we are all nothing more than raw matter, we have no souls. If, however, we do have souls, there must be something more than the material. There must be something spiritual and if there is something spiritual, there must be a God who gave us these spirits, but if there is a God, would He make the mistake of putting a female soul in a male body? How can we know? We can know by what He tells us in His word. “Male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27) and He does not make mistakes, but does everything perfectly with love and wisdom.

We seem to want to erase the idea of gender and reinforce it all at once. We don’t want to have to conform to gender stereotypes. We don’t want to be put into categories and yet we want to be able to transfer ourselves by self-declaration from one category to another. We are so in love with our rebellion against God that we cannot see the absurdity and inconsistency of it all.

You may scoff at me. You may call me close-minded because I have allowed my religious beliefs to (gasp!) affect my judgments of propositions such as “Bruce Jenner is a woman trapped in a man’s body.” But if being open-minded means unquestioningly accepting anything and everything because it is progressive or popular, then I want no part of it. If you think I view the world from a Christian perspective and reject things that, based on that world view and common sense, are absurd, I will unabashedly and unapologetically agree.

If you don’t see things from the same Christian world view that I do, we probably do not agree and that is no surprise, but I must insist on one thing. Bruce Jenner is not a hero. A hero is someone who has done something brave or noble, who has sacrificed for others. Bruce Jenner has done none of these things. He is a man who has posed in women’s clothing on the cover of a magazine, garnering excessive media attention. What’s more he has waited to do so until the optimum moment when he was most sure to receive praise and acceptance. Heroes risk much and gain little. Bruce Jenner has risked little and gained much. I am sure there are many people out there who do things to deserve the title of “hero,” but Bruce Jenner is not one of them. He is not a hero and he is not a woman. He is what we all are: lost, sinful, and desperately in need of Jesus. I pray he finds Him.

RC JR:

Ten Lies of the Devil The World Believes About Bruce Jenner

Share:

The devil is resourceful and hard working. There is no temptation he will not use, no stratagem too tiny to try us with. He does, however, have a few areas he specializes in. He is called Satan because he is an expert at making accusations. He delights to accuse us when we are innocent, and when we are guilty. He is also a murderer and has been from the beginning. Those who hate Him, we are told, love death (Proverbs8:36). He is also not just a liar, but the father of lies (John 8:44). When we hear a lie we ought to smell sulfur. Every lie has his hoof prints on it. Of late the broader culture has been rather frantic in telling and believing lies with respect to Bruce Jenner, and we Christians too often face the temptation to believe them. Here are ten we must never give in to.

10. Bruce Jenner has become Caitlyn Jenner. No, Bruce Jenner has hired doctors to mutilate his body and present the lie that he is now a woman. He is a man.

9. Gender is a social construct that can be chosen at will. No. From the beginning He has made us man and woman.

8. If our feelings don’t match reality, reality will have to change. I don’t dispute that Bruce Jenner wishes to be a woman. But what needs to change is his wish, not the immutable reality he has found himself in.

7. Having our desires “met” will make us happy. No, repenting and believing on the Lord Jesus Christ will make us joyful. The One who designed us gives us His law not to make us miserable, but to show us the way of life. His law is always and everywhere an invitation to joy, not a burden to be carried. If it feels like a burden to us, we must change, not it.

6. Failing to celebrate the mutilation of Bruce Jenner’s body, and failure to affirm the lie that he is now Caitlyn is mean-spirited, narrow and cruel. No, sin is never something to be celebrated, and to be against something is no more narrow-minded than to be for something. One wise friend recently pointed out the irony that it is Christians who prefer the real Bruce Jenner to the faux one, and his purported friends who prefer the fake to the real.

5. Bruce Jenner’s change is no one’s business but his own. No, public decisions have public consequences. It’s true enough that we have plenty of our own sins to worry about. It’s true enough that Christians have no need to hunt down hidden sexual perversion to shout it down. I am honestly not interested in what people wear in the privacy of their own homes. But Bruce has made his choices the world’s business by seeking the world’s attention, appearing on national television and on the cover of a national magazine.

4. Non-Christians are bad people who do this kind of thing and Christians are good people. No, apart from the grace of God in our own lives we’d find ourselves in the same mess or worse as Mr. Jenner. Even with his grace we yet struggle against and fall into sin.

3. Homosexuality is the same as any other sin. No, not all sins are the same. All sins are rebellion against the living God and are due His eternal wrath. But that doesn’t make them all equally rebellious or equally evil.

2. Homosexuals just want to be left alone to do their own thing in private. No, homosexuals insist that the rest of the world approve of their sin. And many are more than willing to use the force of the state to make it happen, whether through indoctrination at the government’s schools, or intimidation through its courts.

1. God will be mocked. No, God will not be mocked. The unsurpassed swift embrace of sexual perversion in the broader culture isn’t a surprise to Jesus. Rather, even as He ordained the rise of Pharaoh and Nebuchadnezzar for our good and His glory, so He has ordained even this. He will use it for His purposes.

We must guard our minds against the devil’s lies. And we must not lose heart. Jesus always wins.

Each point you make has errors in them. Some with so many that it's a lie. And #3 and #2 have nothing whatsoever to do with transsexuality. The fact that you include them shows a lack of understanding, knowledge, or desire to learn the truth.

i don't believe that JM made any points as it was not his article. The person you appear to have issues with would probably be --if i'm reading correctly-- R.C. Sproul Jr.

Probably best if you enlighten us as to how every point had errors rather than finger point. What do you consider to be 'the truth'?

I'm with Dark Lord, show us from scripture where Dr. Sproul was wrong...if you dare...bruhahaha.

I have to warn you though, Christians are not too keen on embracing and encouraging sin. Sin that our dear Lord Jesus Christ had to die to atone for. If you promote sin you cannot be a Christian.

I AM a Christian. And I did extensive study in the Scripture concerning transsexuality. 4 years worth. I did so to PROVE it was sinful. It's not there.

I haven't the time atm to post a full rebuttal. I'll get to it later this evening, hopefully.

It took four years, FOUR YEARS, to come up with a convoluted argument to ignore, twist and rend scripture to support sin? If you want the plain teaching on the subject it will only take about 30 minutes give or take to look up the passages.

One thing that anyone who's interested in this subject needs to keep in mind is that Jenner does not intend to "trans his gender." He's little more than a transvestite who supposedly has a woman's soul, whatever that means. As he explained it, he altered his hair and smoothed out his face a bit but wants--yes--to be able to go both ways sexually, depending on how he feels at the moment. That doesn't even qualify as a Lesbian. He will have no work done on his genitals and will have the minimum of work on his chest so as to allow him to have enough to push up when that's called for, but not at other times.

You could even say that this does a disservice to real transsexuals, those who were wrongly assigned a gender at birth because of a physical deformity but it wasn't in accord with the DNA...or who at least did do all that was possible to change to the other sex.

Statistically, only about 25% of transsexuals who are known through their contact with therapists get surgery. The reasons are myriad. Financial reasons are the primary reason given. It's not easy for an individual to afford. And most insurances refuse to cover it. From those I know, the second most often given reason is to minimize any damage to relationships they have with family. It appears that Caitlyn has her family in mind, from the things she has said.

It needs to be recognized that sexuality plays a very small part of the issue, if at all. So, as far as the true expression of self, surgery isn't as crucial to transsexuals as a lot of people think it is. Plus, one of the effects of hormone treatment is to diminish libido. Add to that her age, which also reduces libido. So, it becomes even less of an issue.

Jenner is definitely NOT a transvestite. Transvestites wouldn't go through as much as she has thus far. Plus, the vast majority of transvestites aren't even slightly interested in changing their body. If you actually had any personal knowledge of transsexuals and transvestites you would have realized that. Most people have no idea of the endurance that is required to go through transition. There's a lot of pain that must be gone through, both physical and emotional. Surgery is actually easy compared to the rest of it. In fact, most transsexuals that DO go through surgery speak of it as simply the "icing on the cake". It's comparatively simple.

My argument is far from convoluted. And, the passages that you might think support your view must be taken out of context to do it. That's hardly "rightly dividing" God's Word.

The four years wasn't spent trying to find a loophole. I was desperately looking for PROOF that it is as indeed sinful, as so many suppose.

We were talking about Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner, were we not? :sigh:

I thought we were not suppose to use transvestite any more but transgender?
I understand there are about 50 variations on that theme, but these two mean something different, and I thought it necessary to make that distinction in this (Jenner) case. :) The only significant "transing" Jenner has done is to change clothes and what he calls himself.

While we are waiting on Ms. Slomer to present her argument on where and why R.C. Sproul Jr is incorrect in his article, i simply note that the term transvestite is pretty loaded. Heterosexual males who dress as women refer to themselves as 'cross dressers'.

Funny that you post the intro to All in the Family. There was once an episode on that programme that addressed the issue of cross dressing. The man in question was a normal heterosexual in all aspects except for the fact that he dressed as a woman. i believe he made money on the side by being a 'female impersonator'. i do not recall the outcome of the episode.

James White has a good discussion of the issue on how he went onto the Dr. Drew Show and were completely intolerant of our position:

He's going back on Dr. Drew this week I think. This time he will be in studio. Hopefully they'll let him get more than one sentence in this time.

If people can just decide what gender they are irrespective of DNA and chromosomes, where does it stop. Can a teenage boy claim to be a cross-dressing, homosexual transgender (which means he thinks he is a gil, but he dresses like a boy and sleeps with girls) so he can change in the girls locker room? Can an asian girl claim to be transracial and transgender, and put on her college application that she is a black boy? Can I chop off my own foot and collect disability because I am transabled?

Jesus Christ said, "Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE" (Matt 19:4). If innate, genetic distinctions for gender do not hold weight, then none of them do. I'm a dolphin and I demand acceptance of all transpecies people like me.
