Oh this is so inconvenient to the media and political narrative:

Authors Retract Hydroxychloroquine Study, Citing Concern Over Data

A large study of the drug hydroxychloroquine has been retracted by three of its authors.

The paper, published in the journal the Lancet last month, concluded that hydroxychloroquine, taken either alone or with an antibiotic, to treat patients with COVID-19 was of no benefit and actually increased a patient's risk of dying.

The publication of the study prompted the World Health Organization (WHO) to halt its own study of hydroxychloroquine. The WHO has now resumed the trial.

The Lancet paper analyzed data, purported to be from COVID-19 patients in more than 600 hospitals around the world. The data were collected by a private company called Surgisphere, whose founder, Sapan Desai, is a co-author on the study.

Concerns were raised about the accuracy of the data and the paper started attracting criticism within days of its publication. In an open letter to theLancet more than a hundred scientists and clinicians asked the journal to provide details about the data and called for the study to be independently validated.

The question now is how many people died that could have been saved if there had not been such a political reaction to Trump saying Hydroxycholroquine might be a helpful tool.

There are now a few studies which correspond with the initial conclusions of the perhaps flawed study you cite, including one by the US Veterans Administration.

Hydroxycholroquine is no more helpful ... and no less risky ... than it was before ...

The VA test should not be used for anything other than toilet paper

It's only a concern to the political narrative if you politicize medical science. Which, IMHO, has been heavy among conservatives since well before Trump, but certainly has ramped during his administration.

Make decisions on data.

They haven't seen the full data yet, only partially, thus, the need to see the full details of the data so that it can be independently verified. In other words, there's no conclusion yet from those who raised doubts.

We'll wait for their independent conclusion once they receive the data in full as they only received a part of it due to confidentiality.
