  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I like the one that has something like this.

Out on the paddio we sit....
this is australia, this is australia....
Oh yes! That one goes
"out on the patio we'd sit
and the humidity we'd breathe in,
We'd watch the lightening crack across the canefields
Laugh and think this is Australia."

That song is called "This Is Australia. It's a beaut too!

Do you mean songs about Australia, or songs written and sung by Australians.

My favourite song about Australia is the Burkes backyard song "Give me a home among the Gum trees"

My favourite songs written and sung by Australians is John Farnham stuff. I don't know how much of his stuff his written himself, but I love all the songs he sings. I love Angels. I am surprised Daniel can't sing that one, he's trying to sing nearly everything else he hears.

A few days ago, R was playing "I want to Know what Love is" Don't remember who sings it, but Daniel was walking around singing "Show meeeee, Show meee" very sweet.

Me too! Although I tend to prefer Jimmy Barnes after he went solo.
Jimmy Barnes is a legend! He played at the Wollongong Hawks first game of the season.
That's another good aussie song - Working Class Man and Redgum - I was only 19

Joshie is a wiggles follower, dances and sings around the loungeroom. Also he loves Colin, we have been listening tob the Cd in the car and you hear this little voice singing along too. It is so sweet to listen to.... Sometimes he has trouble pronouncing some of the words and he gets us into fits of laughter.

As for me, I love John Farham, his last tour concert was great, he's so good live. Also like some of the 80's stuff, men at work, jimmy barnes and Icehouse.

Johnny Farhnam's farm is just up the road from where my brother lives. He lets people in along the river to fish & do their own thing. The house is very big. Often he flies over & drives around. Nice guy!
I love Olivia Newton John. Her looks, her voice, she is just a nice person. I remember her singing when she was very young, "It's XMas Down Under". And, that song sort of stuck with me. She was so cute.
All the little ones love the Wiggles. They are just so typically Australian we can't help but admire & like them.

R scored good brownie points when he took me to John Farnham tour in 02. He even made it a secret and arranged a babysitter and everything.

The one that goes "Out on the patio we sit and the humidity we breathe..." (etc) is actually called "Sounds of Then" and its by Goanna. ;)

I love also Daryl Braithwaite - The Horses and basically the whole album with that song on it.
Rolf Harris songs like "Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport" and "The Court of King Caractacus" and other such fun songs.

I also like Slim Dusty songs "True Blue" and other ones.

I reckon that "I am Australian" should be our national anthem.

And...I like Rolph Hariss's Jake the Peg and the Wobble Board.
But, Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport & The Drover's Dream are great ones too.
We Are Australian makes me cry. And, so does, "I Still Call Australian Home"
They are special.

oh yes, that one's good. Nice music. Hear about it all the time in Qantas ad though.. but i really like the choir.
