  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've finished a novel and am reviewing it. I've heard that reading a book aloud helps in the review process. My thought is that if I bother to do this maybe I could try an audio version of the novel. There are professional narrators, but I've heard people prefer an author narrating his own book. Has anyone ever tried this? If so, how was it?

I have Norman Vincent Peele's The Power Of Positive Thinking on Audiobook, and The Bible with Max MClean. You can try it out on youtube to see if you like it.

I listen to a lot of audiobooks, mostly while doing other things. It’s certainly convenient, I get through a lot more books than I would just reading. Reading is only better if I want to make notes and flick back and forward to different sections etc. The quality of the narration makes a big difference, but almost all of the books I’ve listened to (100s to date) have been well narrated by professional actors. I’ve listened to a few narrated by the author but didn’t really think about that much once I’d got into the book. As long as the narration is good you kind of forget about it.

I'd love to narrate my books, but my voice sucks. My voice is feminine (even though I am a guy), but listening to it told me to hire someone. LOL But, it is very expensive. $150 an hour up was the quote.

My voice is far from great. I'm a guy with a Indiana accent. My novel isn't too long (at 188 pages), so I may try own narration.
