  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am going to attempt to make a nice thread free of arguments and only of good spirit. Here's the idea:

Say one nice (no pretend-nice-but-really-sarcastic) thing about the following religion:

Christianity/Catholic
Islam
Hinduism
Judaism

I have excluded others mostly because these seem to be the ones fighting mostly, but feel free to include others.

I admire Jews because they have a knack for sticking together and have tight cultural bonds. All throughout history people have been trying to "get rid of" the Jews, and no one has succeeded. That is a testament to the vitality of the Jewish people. Also maybe to some divine assistance. ;) :)

Namaste all,

Tibetans and Jews have much in common with each other.. and Tibetans can learn a great deal from the Jewish tradition on how to maintain their religious and cultural distinction whilst they are enduring the Diaspora.

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and the Rabbi Schecter Shalomi are good friends and have compared notes with regards to meditation and the use of esoteric symbolism. surprisingly, there is a fairly strong overlap between the Tantrayana and the Kabbala in some aspects.

metta,

~v

The liberal forms are really interesting theologically. At the same time, the Orthodox, RCC, and Anglican churches are ALSO really interesting theologically. Plus, those who are actually concerned with following their religion, rather than getting others to follow it, are some of the nicest people I've met.

Islam
Devotion to God. As well as a devotion to helping the less fortunate, at least if all the Pillars are followed.

Hinduism
Hinduism is an ancient store of information and wisdom that many religions could learn from.

Judaism
A very strong blend of culture and religion. It brought my sister and bro-in-law together. Judaism also has a good grasp on the unknowability and mystery of god.

Ba'hai Faith
Does a lot of work towards reconciling differences between the Abrahamic faiths, and that's good for the world in general, as two of the three major Abrahamic faiths constitute a huge portion of the world's population.

Judaism- I love Judaism because of the scriptures that they have. synogoges are cool ive been to one. Jews are nice people i have a Jewish uncle and Aunt they are nice. i enjoy looking at jewish customs and scriptures. Judaism is a way of life for Jews not like some others who choose to be religious when they want to and i think thats pretty cool.

Hey Ps139 i see you are from Italy. im studying So i can one day Speak Fluent Italian. i got present tense verbs down pretty good. its alot easier than french i think.

No problem, I'd love to say something nice about Judaism. Judaism is a legal religion, which claims to derive its laws from a divine source. What is rather admirable about the Jewish religion is that many Jews have used this law to promote social justice. In fact, Jews were actively involved with Martin Luther King's civil rights movement. In these ways, Jews are always an asset to the nations in which they reside.

In his writings on Judaism, Albert Einstein said that social justice was the central ethic of Judaism. He also said that this ethic had heavily influenced the New Testament.

Christianity

I respect alot of the Scholarship put out by Protestant Christians, these days. They are going back and re-examining alot of long held beliefs about History and other subjects, and are simply not ignoring facts.

Orthodox/Catholic
I like ceremony and Orthodox/Catholic Churches have a great deal in common with Jews on theological interpetations. The fact that we both reject the doctrine of Sola Scriptura puts us on better ground for understanding, then their Protestant brothers.

Judaism's sister faith. Nuff said.

Very Tolrent to Jews. They have always allowed displaced Jews to worship openly and freely in their lands, without threat of persecution. I think this displays great spiritual maturity on their part.

Never met one, but the members here have really impressed me with their working knowledge of almost all major religions. They always have something constructive and knowledgable to add to any discussion.

There is alot I could say, but I'll keep in short. When one attempts to meditate and pray on the God's unity and omnipotence, Buddhism can offer a practiceing Jew alot, in ways of breathing and focus, that doesn't delve into anything that might be forbidden.

Hi guys, I kind of meant this to be everyone to say something nice about all others, you know, so it wouldn't just be like "muslims say nice things about christians only, and hindus say something nice about buddhists only", but it's okay, proceed, nice to see at least some nice things being said by all

Christianity: I'm a member, so it's not really fair for me to speak about Christianity it general. Though, I guess I could speak about other denominations:

Catholicism/Orthodoxy: I get along with Catholics about as much as my fellow Protestants. Some I can't stand to be around, yet some are great friends of mine. Also, Protestantism wouldn't be around if they didn't come about.

Mormonism: They really care about family.

Islam: Really cool religion. Wonderful culture, and they kept civilization alive back during (everyone else's) dark ages. I've got a couple of translations of the Quran, and even though the translator's skill of English could be better, it's still a beautifully written book.

Judaism: Catholicism/Orthodoxy wouldn't be around if Judaism hadn't come around. And once again, cool culture.

Hinduism: Once again, cool culture. And most are actually really tolerant.

Buddhism: Again, cool culture. I'm also fond of some of it's philosophy.

Ba'hai: I have not met a single Ba'hai that I couldn't get along with. We might not agree on stuff, but we can get along.

Do you also admire idolatry?

Please re-read the title of this thread then return. Kindly leave your immaturity behind, or just leave the thread ;)

Anyways, it's my turn:

Christianity: I do find the message of Christ, sacrificing yourself for the better of others, to be something to admire.

Judaism: Someone mentioned it already, their strength through so much punishment, still staying strong.

Buddhism: Enjoy the philosophy very much and read it alot.

Islam: Admire the devotion that some (not extremists) show. Also I've seen some beautiful mosques.

Come on Theowne, you know you're not going to get me to say anything nice about Hinduism. But what I've already said is better than nothing, right?

Christianity/Catholic -- Many of the Christians I have known have been warm and caring people

Islam -- The few Muslims I have met seemed like very peaceful people, and far from any "terrorist" stereotype

Judaism -- The Jews I have known have been intelligent and thoughtful people

Hinduism -- The Hindus I have met seemed tolerant and friendly
