My city of Hattiesburg has a local forum which I had lurked in for quite some time. I noticed though the other day a thread about Evolution and it not being taught much in Mississippi (no surprise there) and sure enough by page 2 or 3 some people had chimed in with the usual arguments against Evolution - and none of them were true or scientific.

(it won't take the actual URL)
So I began to post...
... and post
...... and post
And I eventually posted post after post, trying to counter all of the bogus claims that were coming at me left and right. "Evolution is a religion" to the left of me. "Evolutionists have a priori assumptions" to the right of me. "Mount Rushmore didn't come together by random chance" right down the middle.
So naturally I began to get a little flustered and upset and I believe it showed in my posts. And of course I got to the point where no one was providing any scientific evidence and the best people could come up with was an argument against Evolution by Dilbert, that I hadn't read my Bible, that Evolution couldn't exist with Religion.
And so I naturally threw my hands into the air and said "I quit". No one was providing any real evidence. No one was providing any valid arguments, and I simply didn't have the energy left to fight this. I came back a day later but was quickly swarmed by ignorance.
I even offered up the chance for a formal written debate (or even one in public) and no one has taken me up on the offer.
So my question is this - in my posts, did I overreact? In my posts, did I do a decent job of at least trying to show how Evolution is a valid scientific theory?
Also, do you have any suggestions? I really can't fight this alone and since no one is really there to really help me I haven't much of a chance to defend science in my home town. I don't ask you guys to post there (but if you did I won't hold you back) but I just want to make sure I did all I could to try to talk some sense into people.
It's just so depressing when ignorance outnumbers you.
