Thought it was interesting, including the controversy it's already accumulating, prerelease.

There aren't that many new movies that I'd happily go to the theater and pay to see but this is one for sure. Unfortunately I don't really go to the movies more than about twice a decade. Instead I'll eagerly be awaiting the day when I'll be able to watch this at home. The book is a favorite of mine and I hope the film was treated right in terms of budget and good acting and writing that doesn't come off as contrived or corny or laughable. I hope the message really reaches some people.

In one forum, I've seen liberals come out strongly against Atlas Shrugged, that it's what greedy Corporate America wants to feed the masses and that any film Sean Hannity likes is not worth it. Somehow films that prop up Che Guevara are beautiful works of art about a truly great man but this Ayn Rand message is outdated tripe. Boggles my mind . . . but I've spent years trying to figure out the liberal mind and it's quite a perplexing thing. In government they trust . . . to steal from the haves in order to give to the have-nots, and those who want to get in the way are unintellectual fools who need to be pushed aside by all means necessary.

Aside from being an entertaining watch, if this movie can win a few hearts and minds in its message that'll be a great thing for true progress in America.

seems about as fun and intellectually compelling as "Transformers 2" while I get conservative propaganda shoved in my face. I'll be skipping this one. It's a shame that they're will be very few actual good movies out this year other than "Contagion" and "Sherlock Holmes 2". Although I have to say Battle: Los Angelos was pretty good.

I find the book and ideas in it (though Rand can get a little preachy and "out there" at times, especially in later books) are sound and she knows what she is talking about. It's a difficult read and I'll be interested to see how they managed to translate the book into a movie, it's not a book I would have picked as "movie material" like some others.

As for the Transformers 2 crack. I'm fairly certain I WON'T come out of this movie with a migraine splitting my skull from lack of plot and too many explosions...if I have a migraine at least it will be from to much plot and too few explosions this time. I can live with that.

I can watch Fox News and get the same message that this movie propels. I've read the plot and it is fairly basic. Introduces nothing new to anything I've already thought about.

So it doesn't bother you that Rand was an atheist who despised Christianity and considered a child rapist/murderer a hero?

Atlas Shrugged is separate from who Ayn Rand was. Like a movie made from a book. They have nothing to do with one another. The movie can differ from the book as much as it wants. They are two totally separate entities.

Maybe a better comparison would be -- I can watch a great film but completely disagree with the politics/beliefs of the people who created such a magnificent work of art.

Should a Christian automatically boycott Atlas Shrugged because of those things you mentioned?

What if Ayn Rand discovered a cure for cancer? Boycott Rand's cure until a Christian of good moral character discovers the cure on his or her own?

Fox News also allows the Obama message. Do you know that? It also allows a message from the left that is different from Obama. Do you know that? Two different views from the left side of the aisle are displayed daily on Fox News Channel. Most people who hate Fox News and repeat that they are purely propaganda do not actually watch to see what I am talking about. So many people seem to just run with the "Fox is conservative propaganda" propaganda based on what they see on Jon Stewart and what they read in Media Matters and/or Huffington Post. But it's true that Fox actually does have liberals on the air to give their point of view on issues to the American audience. Yes, it's true.

I don't want to debate Fox News in this thread so.....

Instead of closing yourself off to a message from the right, why not absorb it and think about it? That would be open-minded to me. To read the plot and say, along the lines of, "This is the same old story that I don't need to hear again," is close-minded. It reminds me of a study done a couple years or so ago, a study that found a majority of conservatives get their news and opinion from a variety of sources. On the flip side, most liberals tend to get their news and opinion from liberals sources only.

So instead of closing yourself off to conservative thought, why not take it in with an open mind and think about it?

Currently 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. Makes sense for a film finished simply because the guy was about to lose the rights to the film.
