I've been looking on some other posts on other parts of CF and what is the deal with athiests?

I really don't understand the reason they decide to come here just to ridicule us. It's super frustrating. I understand that some who do come here are legitimate seekers so they shouldn't be banned as a whole I suppose but posts that make fun of Jesus are totally ridiculous.

I suppose I'm ranting, I just don't think cf is really the place for them.

They're not all here to ridicule us. Some of them were former Christians who still enjoy dialoging with believers and feel a sense of kinship with the body of Christ even though they no longer believe. There's nothing wrong with that.

Sometimes we get trolls but, then again, the trolls aren't exclusively atheist either.

There's atheists on this board who challenge us to think reasonably, not to come over to their side of the fence, but to just use common sense as some of the things that are said on this board are utterly lacking in that. Christian's aren't called to be senseless people, we have cognitive faculties that Christ wholly expects us to utilize, so I think having our atheist friends on this board often times keeps that in check.

I think they are probably here by divine appointment, both to challenge us, and to expose them to the gospel. Satan certainly doesn't want them here. He knows God can change someones heart like we flick a light switch, so I am sure he would prefer they were somewhere else.

You know, you both are right. I was just upset and angry. I don't like seeing them talk about Jesus in the way they were. All we can do is help them and judging like I was doing isn't going to change anything.

I mean, its again forum rules for one demonination to demise another on their own territory. So wouldnt it be the same for atheists who come onto 'Christian' territory? Another slant on this as well is the possibility that some of those who call themselves "atheists" are actually apostates as described in Romans 1:28, Hebrews 6:4-8 and 2 Tim 3:8.

There are those who are genuinely seeking but it's the ones who relentlessly ridicule Christ that I think you're referring to.

When I was an atheist the last place you'd find me would have been on a Christian forum. I was not aware of the existence of God and so had no interest in finding out about him. It's therefore interesting to observe those who claim to be Atheists on CF who aggressively try to tear down our faith and ridicule it.

It's something I bear in mind now to where I don't waste time with them and try to help those genuinely seeking.

C'mon guys. So they mock us. Big deal! When you whine about it you are not only playing into their hands but make those who are Christian look like they are a bunch of namby-pambys with a weak faith. Look what happened to Jesus, Paul, Peter and the rest of the apostles. Did they whine?

The atheists aren't alone in mocking. If you've been on this site for any length of time you know there are many Christians who mock and insult other Christians. In fact, IMO we are the biggest bunch of bickering, back-stabbing communicators I can think of.

I never cared about what others thought and still don't to a point. Those atheists that come here to persecute probably have a personal vendetta just like those in Freedom from Religion that attack Christians all around the U.S. Don't play into their mind games and pray God will pursue them and open their eyes as He did with me and millions of others around the world. Just remember if you ever feel persecuted for your beliefs, in other countries you could be imprisoned or killed for your beliefs.

Most of my immediate family members and all my friends outside church are atheists and like your experience, they just have zero interest in Christianity.

I think the anonymity of the internet plays a large part in how vocal the annoying "atheists" are on here too. That's why as you said there's probably an alternative agenda/ personal vendetta to account for them spending so much time here.

Better to just ignore such people and pray for them.

It's true, I work with a number of atheists and we all have a mutual respect for each other. Neither side is bent on making the other see things their way and I can appreciate that, though if any one of them asked me honestly about my faith I'd be happy to share with them my thoughts and perspective.

I think atheism, like just about any religion unfortunately, has a select few personalities that poorly represent it and those on the outside of atheism automatically lump those few in with the majority and make sweeping generalizations regarding what they're all about. Same thing happens with Christianity (Fred Phelps anyone), Islam (Al-Qaeda), etc.

Hi, I'm new here on this site. I was browsing the site and came upon your post about atheists. I have been on atheist sites. I decided to converse with these people because I was interested in how they thought. Boy! what a terrible experience. I learned that many of them believe that they are the intelligent people because they believe in science. And the rest of us, those of us who believe in God are less intelligent. Their belief is that science does not prove there is a God therefore he doesn't exist. Now there were some that would actually admit that they do not know. They desecrate the bible and God and no matter what I would write they would attack it. Many believe that Christianity should be snuffed out and try to convince believers there is no God. They are especially active with the young. I believe that they come on Christian sites to argue and try to convince believers that there isn't a God. I have also been following a liberal site and found that many on that site were also atheists or believed in some kind of God that I do not recognize. They too are angry and very critical of those who disagree with them. I just wanted to share my experience with you.

Welcome trintje: Just remember God loves atheists too and don't ever be offended when they behave the way they do. God is perfectly capable of defending His reputation and in the end the atheists will see that.

Thank you, what you wrote is exactly what my pastor told me because at first I felt really hurt by the remarks they made and by how they desecrated God. We plant seeds and that is what God wants us to do. "Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world" Thank you

I'm sorry if you are around people who demean their brothers and sisters. I saw you quoted Bonhoeffer. Have you read the book "Bonhoeffer pastor, martyr, prophet, spy" by Eric Metaxas? Very slow read but very good book. He lost his life because of his belief in God.
