Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When the same god who asks a man to sacrifice his own child turns around and says you've gotta murder other people for doing it, it rings a bit hollow don't you think?
Not if that God didn't really want the sacrifice, and made sure to keep it from happening.

Not at all. The nations killed in the Bible were sacrificing children. Big difference from simply killing for any reason, and "justifying" it with God.

Try again.

w8 a minute...who said they were sacrificing their children. Oh ya...the Israelite, the guys who killed them AND claimed god told them so.

irony.

"Leviticus 18 says that God exterminated those nations because they were doing things like committing incest"

Lot

"and sacrificing their children"

Isaac AND Jephthah

"but did so because they were doing evil."
like all those babies he drowned in the flood.
or all those innocent firstborns in egypt.
Lot didn't commit incest, it was done without his knowledge. Still doesn't mean God approved of it.

Jephthah never thought to sacrifice his daughter, the idea only came up because of his own foolish game of chance, not because God wanted it. Furthermore, the Bible never says that he actually did this anyway.

The first born sons of Egypt weren't a "sacrifice". All they had to do was sprinkle blood (not human) on their doorways, and the Egyptian sons would've been spared.

Try again.

haha, its easy to see WHY you dont want to get into a discussion of whose land it is, esp after you said it was "their" land. They occupied it long ago, do you think it is "their" land now? Mighty fine distinction you are trying to make. It WAS their land that they got back, but now it isnt theirs? Now it is? It was all along?
More things I never said. Congrats, your posts are somehow getting even less credible.

Leads off into things that are not so comfortable to think about doesnt it?

Like whose stolen land you are on, and why you support others for stealing land. Moral culpability and all... its uncomforrtable

oh... you know the story of the boy who cried "strawman"? after a while its just noise.
I don't want to get into a discussion about it, because, oh, I dunno....It's shifting goalposts?

You shifted the goalposts, and apparently don't think anything's wrong. You shift goalposts, misquote, and still think you're making a decent argument.

Tsk, tsk.

If you really want a discussion of who Israel's land "really" belongs to, start another thread, and I'll join you there. Although this will prove that I'm not "uncomfortable" with the topic, thereby refuting you even further. So your call.

Who said people are killed for no reason under jihad? They have reasons, justified by their faith in the god of Abraham.

And you complain about ME misquotng?
notice the word "if"? Notice it? Huh?

Notice how I left room to be corrected, since I thought I could be wrong? Notice the question marks, which show that I'm *asking* "if" that's what you mean?

no misquote, babe. I don't use your tactics.

You're going back to your old habbits of misquoting and strawmaning. By "their" land, I only mean the land Israel had as a nation. I did NOT get into a discussion of "who the land really belongs to"....which is what YOU were implying. That's completely diffferent from my post. The fact that you strawmanned me twice in a row further makes your post junk.

Old habbits are hard to break, huh?

Looks like the old-habit-hard-to-break is to attack the messenger.

Its hardly a misquote when i just did a copy paste. Only you can find a strawman in there! You are finding them everywhere... you are getting to be like the boy who cried wolf.

If you "only" meant something you should say that, not something else.

You DID say that they got their land back.

Now if you said you got your car back, that would mean it used to be your car but when you got it back, it wasnt? If it wasnt your car anymore then you had to buy it or steal it.

No wonder you dont want to talk about it.

You trip yourself up if you do. Here you go tripping yourself up.."I did NOT get into a discussion of "who the land really belongs to"....which is what YOU were implying." I wasnt implying that you wanted to get into a discusison of who the land belonged to! Now THERE is a strawman!

Moral culpability is probably another reason for not talking about it.
That is a very uncomfortable topic! Best to call strawman strawman, junk post and pretend you didnt get challenged.

Reasons as good as divine punishment for killing children? I don't think so. I doubt anyone thinks the Jihadist's reasons are on par with stopping child sacrifice.

So lets see, god kills children and that is divine punishment for what, exactly?

Yet again: I did NOT get into any discussion of who the land "really" belongs to. I said "their" land, because Israel currently has it. YOU shifted goalposts and talked about irrelevant things like whether or not the Jews or the U.S. really own their land.

This is actually becoming sad. Rather than just admit you made a mistake, you'll fight tooth-and-nail to argue a point that's obviously not there.

Sad.

If God punishing those who sacrifice their own children is an "atrocity" to you, that says a lot about you.
If you believe God talks to people telling them to kill others, stay away from me.

Jihadists reasons are "on par," just ask them. It is a holy war, justified by god. What more reason do you need?

Oh my, MORE word games. Ok! Notice i didnt say you misquoted?
Did you notice that (huh?)

"Their land" doesnst mean "their land". A direct quote is a straw man.

Dont try to play word games with me, for one thing, you can't possibly beat me at English language usage, and for another, I am not going to play.

Do you think you could stay on a topic now and stand clear of the personal remarks and word games?

No it wasn't a sacrifice, it was mass murder. Explain why it's necessary to put blood on the doorways to keep from being murdered.

This is what's funny in a sick way, God decides that murdering children is bad. So he sends in his people to murder every single living person.

Including the children.
