Because some atheists are anti religion. Christopher Hitchens is a famous anti-theist: he actively opposes the existence of religion.


That's probably your mistake. People who call themselves atheists generally define 'atheism' as the absence of belief in deities. Most self-professed atheists don't actively deny their existence - and those who do are 'Strong' atheists. That said, some atheists, like Hitchens, while not actively denying the existence of gods, still consider religion to be harmful.


Because it's not a non-issue. Religion has a very big impact in the world, and not all of it's good.

If Atheists are intellectually superior and state themselves as "non religious", then why do some of them present themselves as "anti religion?"

Religion should be to them, like water running off of a duck's back. Why do they need to defend themselves? After all, religious people are retarded in some sense of the word "retarded", otherwise Atheists would not be Atheists, they would be Agnostic. Because Atheists are above the whole concept of religion, as a truly intelligent mind, why do they care about arguing their non faith, and why are they sensitive about it? After all, religion is ludicrous and they as intelligent minds are above all that.

I'm also one of the supposed "strong-atheists" who actually outright denies the existance of any deities. If people have a problem with that, so be it. I see no point in tip-toeing around the subject, I say it as it is. The problem is, alot of theists take this to mean I have a problem with them, or consider them stupid, just because I think they believe in complete nonsense. This is not true.

You can completely believe in whatever you want, and still be an intelligent individual, like yourself, no doubt. Just as one can be an atheist and still be a complete idiot. I have no problem with you believing, not one bit, if it makes you happy, then good for you! You're wrong, but if that's how you want to live your life then that's all that matters.

That only makes sense, believing in what you think you have experienced. I'm fine with that. My problems with theists begin when they start insisting that other people should believe in the same things even when they haven't experienced them, and there's no logical reason to do so.

It just always seems strange to me that the people who seem to experience these things are the ones who actually want to believe in them in the first place.

Mark, if you and I were to sit down in real life and/or were neighbors we would be friends. and the concept of God would never come in our conversations. In fact you would not even believe that tuck and I are the the same person. When I am around angry people I get angry and when I am around people who are not angry, then I am not angry. You are "not by nature" an angry person. I am extremely empathic and the emotions and thoughts of other people effect my emotions and thoughts. It has been a problem my entire life. and I am for all practical purposes a recluse because of this handicap.

Every time I tried to start a topic about some of the things that I actually know about and was looking forward to possibly discussing with others, I was jumped by a certain group of people that are angry people by nature. and if folks want to be angry at me, then I will give them a reason, that way it is all my fault and it is not theirs and they are sin free .

The problem with angry by nature people is that they kill a message board because they chase away folks that are not inclined to be that way and only angry people are left on it.

Mark, I do feel bad that I upset you personally. I did not expect that to happen or I would have approached things differently. Oh well what is done is done.

I love this message board and I will sacrifice myself to see that it exists. I do understand the psycho-social dynamics of a message board and the human mind. I love Jesus and what the management of this message board is attempting to do. variant you are running personal, I am not. I am setting a foundation for a new beginning. Prove me wrong.

Most people who try to get along with me generally avoid making baseless accusations about me; thus it's really not that hard.

As to this one, I am not even sure I know how to be upset random people on message boards for being male.

It is not about who I am, it is about what you think I am. You and others like you are the reality test that determines what I actually am. We are all playing in a social reality and the question is the success of this social reality that we are all playing in. I love Jesus and I love what the management of this message board is attempting to do. They are attempting to create a place where non Christians and other Christians and other religions can hopefully have a dialog with each other. The whole dog gone thing with what they are attempting to do is very tricky, because of "The Human condition."
