Yes it does bother me that there is a religion that justifies repressing every form of human expression that has anything to do with the capsule we are born in and live our lives. It bothers me that we are to feel ashamed of being human and to dedicate ourselves to living a life terrified of living for ourselves instead of a deity that looks down upon it's supposed creation with disgust because of some figure called Adam who was printed in a book. It bothers me that people expand on something that in its place is comforting, but when forced out into the world that disbelieves it, it takes on a repressive, totalitarianism that is despotic and belligerent to the extreame
I think there are some basic misunderstandings of what Christianity is and what it teaches here.
There are indulgences which are very pleasant, but that are harmful to the capsule we are born in.
Gluttony comes immediately to mind. Obesity is rampant in our society. And it causes untold damage.
For Christians, over indulgence is supposedly a no-no (but don't tell the Baptists I said that, though...)
Now, food itself, like sex, is not harmful, by itself. Abusing it...using it in wrongful ways...is very harmful.
Obesity has been linked to things like heart attacks...people die of being too fat.
And I don't think I need to mention all of the diseases that are associated with careless sex? People die of these diseases.
My point is that there are behaviors which are natural, and pleasant, that we need not feel ashamed of, or be terrified of, that, if abused, can and often do result in irreparable harm.
I do understand that Christianity...or more correctly Christians, can be seen as repressive, despotic, and as you say, belligerent to the extreme, to people who do not believe in it, and who resent a deity that dares to judge them...
By the way...food is my big downfall. And I am a darn good cook, if I do say so myself...
