I go out on Teen Faith with my Youth Group, it's pretty much door to door witnessing.

I'd say there's your problem. Not everyone likes having strangers walking up to their house trying to sell them something. And especially since religion tends to be pretty personal, I can see how some might be outright offended or annoyed by you approaching them. After all, how would you feel if atheists came to your house and tried to get you to give up your belief in God?

Perhaps you should post your question in the Christian-only sections. There are some forums for ministry here.
I would think you get better answers there.

Hey, you could come back and try them out on us - maybe they´ll work!

Or you could read some of the threads in the General Apologetics section. They might give you some hints what can be used - and what counter-arguments may come.

I think it´s sad when people are rude, but that is a common problem in our society, not limited on Atheists. Just ignore those people. No one holds you personally responsible for their conversion.

Enjoy your stay on ChristianForums! You have come to a good site here.

Sorry they were rude to you.

I would agree, door to door religion sales is not the best way to do it. Although I would be nice, a door to door religion saleman would not get me to buy.

My suggestion when dealing with atheists is to basically forget most of what of anything they have taught you about appologetics, and just be nice and respectful, as others have mentioned, going door to door can sometimes get on peoples nerves.

And also, as was pointed out. If an atheist came to your door and tried to get you to forget about god, how likely would it be that you would completly forget about god?

let me clarify a little,
I go out on Teen Faith with my Youth Group, it's pretty much door to door witnessing. We see a lot of salvations, but sometimes people are just rude. Last week we talked to 2 atheists. One was about 24, talked for a while, then while my friend was in mid sentence laughed and shut the door. Anyway, we wanted some advice on what to say to them, since the bible doesn't work(they always roll thier eyes and call it "garbage") We are always just polite and say thanks, and we never get into debates with them, but it is really sad to see people so far from God. If you can help us out, please do.
God Bless

Before you call someone rude, keep in mind that you knocked on his door, he didn't knock on yours. I hope you respect the wishes of those people who have "No Soliciting" signs on their doors.

Might have mistook you for a Jehovah's witness. Personally I'd probabbly treat a door to door witnesser like I would a telemarketer. If I can't think of an excuse then the phone mysteriously goes dead. I wonder what would happen if I went around a conservative christian neighborhood and tried evangalising atheism? Getting a door slammed in my face would be my greatest success.

As for how to convert an atheist it all depends on what kind they are.

Intellectual - Unless you have more degrees than fingers (unless you were in a horrible shop accident) you might as well not even try. You'd have to discover something that would completely destroy our understanding of geology, physics, biology, astronomy, etc... and prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt that it all leads to your specific god. That's not asking for to much is it?

Average - Eh, they just don't believe. A little easier and less demanding than the intellectual so you might be able to slip in some happy thoughts about an afterlife. Still you'd have to be well versed in your own beliefs because they won't go down without a fight but at least you can bring the ball into your home court (spirituality and philosophy).

Rebellious - Ah, the angst filled youth who don't care about anything or anyone. Don't know why they disbelieve. They are the AIG of the atheist community. If you can catch them down on their luck it's likely to be easy pickings. Feel free to use Pascal's Wager and a little brimstone with these ones.
