At least two attacks on Christians are being reported every day in India this year, according to new figures released by a Christian advocacy group.

A total of 313 incidents were recorded between January and May alone, based on calls to a toll-free helpline run by the New Delhi-based inter-denominational body United Christian Forum, according to the Union of Catholic Asian News.

The pattern of violence has intensified steadily over the past decade, UCF data shows. The organization logged 834 incidents of attacks on Christians in 2024, up from 734 in 2023 and 601 in 2022.

Modhi's Hidutva government is based on Hindu nationalism, so that's not surprising. Alot of the secular ideals of India are being laid aside in general in the past couple of decades, in favor of a shallow, nationalist ideology that appropriates Hindu symbols for nationalist purposes.

I was under the impression India was more diverse: apparently I was wrong.

It actually is. India has always had different religions. The tribal peoples do not practice "Hinduism" as such, many are animists, for instance.

One of the oldest Christian communities in the world is in southern India, in Kerala.

Yes. I think there are St. Thomas Christians, if I recall correctly.

True. Though the community is now divided by denomination. Some are now Catholic, some are now Protestant, some have closer ties to the Assyrian Church of the East, and retain much of their ancient customs.
