• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Why do you think God gave it to you?
Honestly I don't know. I know that it is not a punishment though because of what Jesus said in John 9:

"His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus"

Wow. There are so many possible reasons that you have been given Aspergers. Ultimately, however, I believe that you were given Aspergers, along with whatever other flaws you may suffer, so that your willing devotion to God can—in the end, should you remain faithful to God to the end—be made perfect, and pronounced acceptable to God, just as Christ's submission to the Father in Gethsemane and on the Cross were the means by which His willing devotion was made perfect, and pronounced acceptable to God.

This does not, of course, touch on whether or not you find bearing the cross of Aspergers "easy," which thing I doubt.

Why did God give me Aspergers?

There are a number of possibilities. The Bible tells us that there are works that were planned for us from before the foundation of the world. It may be that some of these works entail an Aspergers perspective.

For example, if the world is being woven into an increasingly tighter collectivized system by Satan, a disengaged social outlook could be essential towards minimizing a corruptive influence. Being left out of social integration when that integration carries with it a significant danger of corruption, may not be entirely bad.

You may find yourself in a position of being the only one to help another person because of your experiences and condition.

2 Corinthians 1:4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

If you want to talk, please feel free to PM me.

I don't think that Aspergers is a flaw. It is a legitimate way of being in the human race. Any personal characteristics can provide an advantage or a disadvantage depending upon the circumstances. We live in societies that are custom-made to accommodate and support those who are neurotypical, which can lead us who are not neurotypical to suffer needlessly. What is flawed is a society that places all of the burden of adjusting on us Aspies. If we were being accommodated and supported more, we would suffer less and our societies would benefit from the sorts of contributions we can make when we are at our best rather than simply struggling to cope. Maybe that is in the process of happening. :)

For a theist, the end of the John 9 quote that Denmark brought up is important. The man was born blind, "so that the works of God might be displayed in him." For an Aspie who is a theist, pondering on Asperger's as something that will display the works of God in a unique and specific way might be helpful, that God has particular works he desires to be displayed for which neurotypicality is inapt.

I simply want to know your opinion on this question:
Why did God give me Aspergers?

We don't know why but I can take a guess. My guess is to help people and understand them. Maybe?

I'm praying for you. :prayer:

I don't think the OP poses a useful question. The cross shows God bringing good out of evil. But I'm not convinced that God is responsible for the evil in the first place. Even if he is, it's unlikely that we'll understand his purpose for our life until the end. Much better to look at the best way to use what we have and the position we're in, having faith that God will use us effectively.

I am betting that, without The Fall, what we call Aspergers is a valid [personality?] type. Biblical prophets often exhibited the same qualities. I believe that we just wear our Original Sin differently. It isn't particularly worse than anyone else's, just different.

We are saved by the same Blood and have the same Author and Finisher of our faith. He just has to take a different tack with us.

I sincerely hope that you do not view your aspergers as a flaw. It is a difference in how your mind works, true. Even so, you can do great things regardless. If you believe that God gave you aspergers, then believe that, but it is irrelevant to the fact that it shouldn't stop you from pursuing your dreams and realizing your happiness in this world.
