Do you think they should teach proper nutrition in schools?
How do oyu feel about fast food offered in schools?
I do think proper nutrition should be taught in schools. 2nd grade has a nutrition section and I try to share with kids how to eat right. But even if they learn it in schools, the younger they are the more they have to go along with whatever their family eats. I think it should be a partnership with the schools. There has to be a way to reach out to the familys first and educate them first about nutrition. I don't know how many times i've sent a note home asking parents to send in "healthier" snacks (things with not too much sugar, crackers even) and all I get is pack after pack of oreos or that type of cookie. But there are several obese (grossly obese) children in my school and it hurts me to see them unable to be a child (running, laughing, playing, etc..) b/c their entire family practices bad eating habits.
I do not think fast food should be offered in schools. What that boils down to is: money- it's a way to make a quick buck. I think fast food in schools is equivalent of sacrificing children's health on the alter of the almighty dollar. If you make that stuff avalible, kids are gonna buy it, cause they love it! But I think that schools need to uphold standards of good nutrition and education. If they want to eat fast food everyday, their parents can take them and buy it- but it shouldn't happen at school. I'm so tahnkful that my school hasn't gone that route. All we have is a water machince- the only coke machine is in the teacher's workroom and students are not allowed to get them at school- water only.
