I know...what kind of flower isn't the most manly of questions is it? :D But, I figured guys give flowers now and again. So, I asked anyway.

Theo, did you know that Woman at the Well is in a very similar occupation to you?

If you're talking about giving flowers, that would be roses.

I didn't know that about WatW. What does she do?

Can't go wrong with roses.

Computer  ...something for the school...something. I'm not putting that right. Things have a habit of going in my brain one way, and never coming back out exactly the same. But, if you look at her "face the board" thread, she explains it. :)

I have a question; *IF* you were to come to dinner at my house, what would you want me to cook?

And, *IF* you were to cook dinner for me, what would be your specialty?

I'll eat just about anything so, whatever you like to cook would be ok. Some of the things I like are fish, poultry and just about anything with cheese on it.

I would probably try to cook something Icelandic for you. Maybe a leg of lamb or some seafood. And maybe some chocolate soup.

Budding Thorn tells me we are in very similar lines of work! Do you enjoy what you do?

I enjoy it most of the time. There are a couple of people there who make things dificult but, there will be people like that at every workplace. And of course, I work for the city so, the pay isn't great. Other than that, I love my work. What is it that you do?

Hum . . .sounds like my job. A couple of REALLY difficult people, that HATE technology so . . .guess what? They associate me the tech guru with  frustration. Sound familiar Theo? LOL.

I don't want to discuss the pay. It should be a crime what I am being paid for what I do. And to answer that question - I am a Computer Site/Lab Mgr. at an elementary school. Which means I "teach" (reteach) computer stuff and try to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair 150+ pc's in the building (plus peripherals). YIKES!!!! How about you?

Sounds like we have pretty similar jobs. I'm the administrator at an elementary school (grades 1-10). We have about 100 computers, 600 kids and 50 teachers plus administration and staff. All in all, close to 700 users.

So do you TEACH computers AND maintain, troubleshoot, and repair? Do you have a degree, etc? Are you classified/certifed staff?

I am classified. I do both - teach and maintain, etc. I have an AAS Degree in CIS and 5 certificates in the field as well. Plus several years of tech type experience elsewhere. I got to work as a Test & Repair tech for H/P for a couple years and loved that job! How did you get interested?

Other than the Bible, have you read any Christian books that have impacted you?

I've read a number of good Christian books that have impacted me. I think the first Christain book that really changed my outlook on things was Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger by Ronald J. Sider. It made me realize that there are people in this world that have absolutely nothing and that I should be thankful for what I have.

Vanja
by Myrna Grant tells the true story of a young Christian in the Soviet army and how he was persecuted and how God sustained him through it. That really got me thinking about how great God really is.

PATMOS - When The Heavens Opened by Basilea Schlink is another book that got me to rethink some things. It talks about how we're already seeing preliminary judgements from God and it won't be long until we see the things described in Revelation.

The most recent book I've read that has had an impact on me was probably The Church Comes Home by Robert & Julia Banks. It talks about how the church today is different from the church in the first century and how God intended the church to be and about the advantages of home churches.

I had been out of work for about 6 months when I went to visit my next door neighbors one evening. It was the first week of the new school year and they had a daughter in the 10th grade. She had computers as her first class the next day. I heard her say to her mom "I can sleep in tomorrow since they haven't found a computer teacher yet." I had just finished a course in systems administration a few months earlier and I jumped at the chance to work at anything computer related. I got the job. I was teaching part time and maintaining the system part time. Since I wasn't a certified teacher, I couldn't keept the teaching job once a certified teacher applied so now I just do the administration and assist users.

I didn't get a degree from the school I went to. They aren't an accredited college. I did get an MCP certification though. I figured it would help me get a job. But, after getting replies from prospective employers like "MCP? What's that?" I just didn't see any reason to keep it current so I'm not really certified any more. I've been thinking about getting certified again though. It seems employers pay more attention to things like that and know more about them than they did 8 years ago. I'd like to get an MCSA and maybe also Linux certification.

Hey Theo, did you overlook post # 160 ? God bless:)

Sorry about that.

hi Theo, how is everything with you? Good I hope. I was curious about your country. Is Christianity the main religion of Iceland? Also was wondering if Iceland is mostly countryside with a few big cities or not. Guess I kind of picture it as a frozen tundra type of place ( probably because of the name Iceland ) I probably should have paid more attention in geography class huh^_^

Paying more attention in geography class probably wouldn't have changed anything. I remember learning about Iceland in geography back in Tulsa where I grew up. There was one paragraph about it.

Christianity has been the official religion since 1000 AD. At first it was Catholicism but around 1550 we converted to Lutheranism. We got freedom of religion just before the turn of the 20th century. Today, the Evangelical Lutheran church is the state church and about 85% of people belong to it. We have a number of other Christian denominations like Pentecostles, Salvation Army, Catholics, 7th Day Adventists and more.

About 1/3 of the population of Iceland lives in the greater Reykjavik area. Most others live in smaller fishing villages but there are a few other large (on an Icelandic scale at least) towns. Most of Iceland is uninhabited (and uninhabitable). There are about 300,000 people living on 100,000 square km (40,000 sqare miles).

It's a lot warmer here than you would think considering how far north we are. The Gulf Stream brings warm water from the Gulf of Mexico and makes the weather a lot milder than it otherwise would be.

The Icelandic name for Iceland is "Island" (Pronounced EES-lahnd). "Is" means ice (and also ice cream). But, some people say that's not the reason for the name. They say that "Is" is and ancient Indo-European word that means God. If that's right, the correct name would be God's Land. I've also heard the explination that the Vikings gave that name to Iceland and named Greenland as they did so that everyone would want to go to Greenland and they could have Iceland to themselves.
