I smell a focus for my degree and potential patents ;-)

People seem to not know that a machine can be biological, mechanical, or both. There is absolutely no reason why machines cannot be made to have self recognition and awareness and thus be classified as sentient beings. After all both machines and living things are basically made up of the very same elements that make up the universe.

According to the latest scientific buzz; We will have within the next 35 years the first positronic brain that will surpass our intelligence. The only way we can compete with such intelligence is to incorporate it into our brains and thus become biomechanical hybrids.

Oh man; the terminator is closer than we think:.................

Cool. I might watch that, after exams ^^
It's true, we can make machine/life hybrids. But there are some non-trivial problems related to it. I did not think you could (easily) grow brain cells to any significant number without other fenotypes present

Scientists grew rat brain cells on a circuit board. The board was connected to sensors. Pretty soon the cells began to organise themselves and react to the sensors. Every time the cells turned the robot and avoided collisions a chip would reward the cells with a pleasant electrical current.

Eventually the robot ended up reacting to all the sensors and voila; A biological brain was organised by the cells and it became an integral part of the robot.
