  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The brain of a creationist?

Leave it to a follower of the "Enlightened One" to use a thread devoted to asking physics questions as a springboard to ridicule creationists --

I guess some think that "light" in "enlightened" means the electromagnetic spectrum?

Interesting thread ... I've got a question that I have pondered a time or two, perhaps someone can answer.

During a wind storm I once saw a car battery which was setting flat on the ground roll side over side about 20 feet across my backyard and up against a hedge row. It was one of the larger Diehard batteries [out of a 68 caddy] and of course rather heavy.

Any idea what kind of wind speed would be required to do such a thing?

The word 'JERUSALEM' comes to mind... :p

Anywhere between nil and negligible. If it does have mass, it's far too small for us to detect.

If a photon has mas wouldn't that mean that we can have matter travel at the speed of light?

We can, technically. According to the Standard Model (the main model of particle physics used today), 'mass' is caused by the Higgs Boson slowing particles down by proportionate amounts: all particles travel at lightspeed, and are then slowed by the Higgs Boson. The amount by which they're slowed is what we see as their mass.

So mass is a funny thing. Incidentally, if photons have mass, then they presumably travel at just under c.

have you ever seen a Higgs Boson?

are you saying, electromagnetic fields are made of photons , just like a four dimensional quantum hologram?
Yes. An EM field is a peculiar flux of virtual particles influence by charged particles and whatnot.
