Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The gray panel in this image moves to the back or front as you look at it. Awesome.
Really? I just see an irregular hexagon arbitrarily segmented and shaded. Tsk, always thinking in two dimensions...

Problem with Time Travel

:D

Yeah, you've gotta account for the space in "spacetime". It seems like given all the factors, including the earth's wobble, if you could time travel it'd be virtually impossible to calculate precisely enough to arrive on the surface of the earth. Even if you calculated precisely enough to approximately hit earth where it happened to be, you'd most likely be killed because you'd materialize either in an ocean, or underground, or at some altitude you'd fall from.

Why is something referred to as a 'pair of scissors'? or a 'pair of pants'?
Because they generally come in pairs: two blades on a pair of scissors, two trouser legs on a pair of *cough* pants. I honestly don't know, so I can only offer you these explanations. Basically, they are (or were) two individual items put together, and the vernacular stuck.

A physicist thinking in only two dimensions? What kind of physicist are you? ^_^

Why is something referred to as a 'pair of scissors'? or a 'pair of pants'?
So it doesn't make sense to the native speakers either :D The best explanation my English teachers could give is that they are made of two parts. Which fails miserably as an explanation when YOUR language has no trouble referring to all of these objects in singular ^_^

(If a pair of trousers is a pair of trousers, what is one trouser, anyway? I thought those were called the legs of the trousers... or pants, or whatever your local dialect wishes to call them...)
