  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

OK, lets say he was hanging on wires for the air trick, and use sliding glass for the glass trick, but what about the water trick, any explanation for that?

The Water one is easy, I can even do it.

But as I stated above, I don't break the Magicians Code.

If you want to know how it's done, without stealing the secret, go out and buy it.
Where's the store? Does it come with a pool?
If you don't care about stealing the secret, go use google.
The masked magician says glass.

His actors weren't that good, though. And he used a private pool instead of a public one. Nevertheless, I think he might be onto something.

Do you think he can repeat what Jesus did? I heard someone tried it and drowned.

You can make any illusion happen without enough money. Do you believe Darren Brown actually predicted the lottery? Do you believe Uri Gellar can actually bend spoons?

The masked magician says glass.
How reassuring.

His actors weren't that good, though.
Says who? You? How good do actors have to be when it's all mirrors and smoke? Hollywood does it all the time, and to a much higher calibre.

And he used a private pool instead of a public one.
Source?
Either way, that hardly vindcates his stunt.

Nevertheless, I think he might be onto something.
Of course you do. And if an atheist recreated the stunt exactly, and explained how he did it with wholly natural means, you'd decry him as a charlatan and a Satan-worshipper.

Do you think he can repeat what Jesus did? I heard someone tried it and drowned.
The onus being on you to show that Jesus actually did what is claimed of him...

This thread is too awesome to go this long without a new post!! I need to ask a question!! (I want this thread to last forever...:ebil:)

I've heard of the luminiferous aether. How did scientists figure out that there was no such thing?

Bonus question for Doveaman: Do you dream of electric sheep? :)

I have a question....

What is the difference between a physicist and an guy that has a physics degree?
The same difference between a biologist, and a Creationist with a biology degree.

I want to live forever! As an atheist, I know there is no afterlife, so I don't want to be proven wrong when I die ^_^.

If memory serves... the aether is a medium in which light moved. They figured that, as the Earth goes round the Sun, at some points it will be moving with the aether, and at others it will be moving against it. Thus, light should seem to move faster and slower over the year. Turns out, it didn't. This was a resounding disproof - not just evidence against a hypothesis, but full on refutation. Cool beans.

Is it because it will take forever for you guys to find the correct scientific answers? :)
"You guys"? You talk as if you're working separately from us. What, have you discovered the True Answer™?

Maybe, maybe not. Who knows? Certainly we're the only ones making any effort to look, as opposed to guesswork.

Ah. That makes perfect sense. Cool beans, indeed.

Hmm. Last night I thought of another question to ask, but now I can't remember what it is.

Can a sheep function without electricity? :)

I supose it depends on what sort of function the sheep is supposed to be serving. :p

Actually, I do have a serious question for you (or anybody else who has knowledge about this "electric universe" stuff); how does plasma cosmology account for the formation of the Solar System? (And please, give me an answer more detailed than "God did it, with electricity".)
