So, I asked the question before. Did a group of wise people MADE THAT SERIOUS MISTAKE? If so, Why?
I don't need a philosophy degree. But I was given one. I want to know what is the justification.
At this point I'll just quote Rhett: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn"
I don't think there is a justification and it's clearly a mistake.
You shouldn't have been given any degree.
Now you made a double mistakes.
1. You think people should not create the Ph.D. title at the first beginning. (i.e. All Ph.D.s do not really merit that title)
2. You think my school, my department and my professors made a big mistake by giving me one.
My advice to you: Be Humble.
In modern terms you don't get a philosophy degree unless you study philosophy. The title 'Doctor of Philosophy' is just a convention, a tradition from the days when 'philosophy' had a slightly different usage than today, e.g. science was called 'natural philosophy' - as I'm sure you already know. And when a woman or a married man qualifies with a BSc. (Batchelor of Science) or BA (Batchelor of Arts) they don't become a batchelor.I don't need a philosophy degree. But I was given one. I want to know what is the justification.

You don't seem to be able to grasp what the word "philosophy" means in PhD.
What serious mistake? Not knowing that someone who claims to be a PhD on the internet is incapable of understanding that words have different meanings in different contexts?
So, would you tell me what does the word mean? I assume you said the Ph. in the Ph.D. does not mean philosophy.
I think I do. But you do not agree.
I think the Ph means philosophy. It means a Ph.D. is a Doctor of Philosophy.
What say you?

From a philosophical view, persistent equivocation of the term can be seen as either ignorant or mendacious...
I say that you do appear to believe these things which you claim. I can't understand why, but I don't doubt that you do have this mistaken understanding even after being corrected by multiple people.
Do you understand what "context" is? Do you understand how it changes the meaning of words?
Without this basic understanding of language...I can't help you.
Lots of words have multiple meanings. As adults we manage to navigate this.So you say this philosophy is not that philosophy?
Boy, I have to say you are very knowledgeable.
I only know the meaning of one philosophy.

In PhD, philosophy refers to the historic meaning of 'learning' generally. So, what is the meaning of "philosophy" in the Ph.D. ?
How is it different from the use of another "philosophy"?
Then, sorry, no answers for you.
I really don't think you are a thinker.
I may not be a "thinker", but I do think.
I do not know if English is your native language.
You wrote...
Did a group of wise people MADE THAT SERIOUS MISTAKE?If English is not your native language that is acceptable and understandable.
Since when we have the word Philosophy and since when we have the term Ph.D.?
You think people should not create the Ph.D. title at the first beginning.
OK, try not to give you any harder time.
If English is your first language, I don't understand how you could have written an acceptable doctoral thesis.
In PhD, philosophy refers to the historic meaning of 'learning' generally.
But as a field of study today, philosophy refers to a certain type of inquiry into human meaning, investigating logic, epistemology, values, and so on.
For example, you can get a PhD in engineering, but no one would say are a philosopher. You are an engineer.
.
With a geology PhD, chances are you'd be no better equipped for philosophy than someone with a bachelors degree in geology. That geology "Ph" doesnt indicate any knowledge in the field of philosophy. Finally, you said something no one have said so far. Good for you.
Take an example to illustrate. If I have a Ph.D. in Geology, Could I use my knowledge in geology to do the following:
"to do a certain type of inquiry into human meaning, investigating logic, epistemology, values" ?
Do you need me to give you examples on that?
