I'm getting artifacts in UT2004, I've had the system for a couple of years, but the video card 3 months. Any ideas? I can't install Motherboard Monitor because it does not support the Dell motherboards. But I am still suspicious of heat, any comments on this?

Thanks,

Luke

The 9800pro has a huge fan on it, does it not? What I would do is look at getting a cooling system if you are THAT concerned with it. Maybe pop in a couple more fans by cutting a hole in the side of your box big enough to put a fan in. The fan on the 9800 should be more than enough to cool down your card tho.

Make sure your video card drivers are up-to-date. Download the latest ones from ATI's site; Windows Update (and Dell, for that matter) is usually behind version-wise when it comes to hardware drivers.

Heat could be a problem but Dell does a good job cooling their systems. Unless the video card is aftermarket I wouldn't suspect that. Instead of cutting up your case, just crack it open and point a fan in there while playing. See if that clears up your problems. If it does then look into upgrading/adding fans to the case or video card.

Another thing that was brought to attention, a lot of games still don't have ATI support. Though I think your safe with UT2k4, I am not real sure of it. I know we had to patch a game we worked on a few months back due to the lack of ATI support and problems we were getting from users who had ATI cards.

Back on topic... check your video card, make sure the fan is working on it. I have a Dell (which I firmly regret buying and will from now on build my own systems) and the fan on the vid card went bye bye. Also, if you have a very dusty area, try cleaning your fans out with a can of air. Might help a bit.
