I guess I am just a little confused. So do you think it is sinful or not christian like to do this in an academic/doctor like proffesional setting?

My stance is that I would not. I am a Christian YouTuber and there are many people that would use anything to discredit me, and this may hinder the opportunities that i have to serve the Lord.

To clarify my position, I am not married, but if I were, I would not want my husband modeling nude. And, frankly, I would be insulted if he had no problem with me doing such a thing, like he didn't love me enough to keep me secret from other eyes.

I realize artists are in an academic situation, almost like a doctor- just another form to them. These are my personal thoughts.

I do apologize, I made the assumption that such a beautiful, intelligent Lady would have been spoken for.

Throwing another opinion into the pot: I see nothing wrong with either sex posing as a nude model, single or married, Christian or non-Christian, as long as their behavior does not involve illicit sexual behavior (I don't consider nudity to be sex).

If a person is married, they would be irresponsible to do this without discussing it with their spouse, and both agreeing that it was OK.

Many occupations have to deal with nudity all the time: medical people, hospital workers, undertakers, law-enforcement officers, actors, sometimes even teachers. They all just learn to deal with it.

People must also learn to deal with sexual temptation; it happens all the time, with or without clothes.

PS: I think context has a lot to do with it also. I remember decades back in biology classes we got to discuss stuff which in other different contexts might have been deemed inappropriate by the very instructor with whom the biology was discussed.

My wife said the same thing as you about women nude male art models not being a big deal because women don't see it the same way men do. I guess this is why she is ok with me modeling. I guess my only question for you is that if it is not a big deal why would you be against your husband filling in and modeling for an art class that is in need of a male life model? Would you divorce him over something like this?

My personal opinion is that with Christians, your body no longer belongs to you- but to your wife, and vice versa. If I were married, I would not like my husband posing nude. I would also be insulted if he was alright with me doing the same.

I am not sure if it is sinful for a man, since your nude body is not likely to stimulate the ladies drawing you (no offense, women just imbibe pornography through the framework of a story and not so much as just seeing a naked man).

I think it would be sinful for a Christian woman to pose nude- even in an academic setting, because it could stimulate the men drawing her.

You asked for our personal opinions, I thought. So I am writing my personal opinions as well as my opinions about Christian behavior.

I think you should number one, ask your wife her opinion. She may not want you modeling in the nude.

This is going to sound like a double standard, but since you are a man, there is little chance that women will be looking at you with lust. We're not made to lust after a man simply by seeing his nude body (most of us, anyway). We're not as visually stimulated. If you were a woman, it would be a different thing altogether.

I personally think when you are married, your bodies belong to each other and no one else. I would not want my husband modeling nude- even for an academic art class.

The MOST important person to ask is if course, your wife.

Please. Not all women are alike. Not all men are alike.
Some women SERIOUSLY have a problem with lust!
And yes, they enjoy visual stimulation!

You say these are few and far between?
Have you seen the statistics lately of the percentage of women who watch porn?
Porn: Women Use it Too

God prescribed to Adam and Eve alike, the need for more clothing than just fig-leaf aprons.
In fact, the subject was so important to Him that the first blood shed on the planet, was to clothe BOTH genders!

We have been brainwashed long enough by the world.
It's time we learn to think how God thinks about nakedness.
(And how He thinks about fig-leaf-swimwear, for that matter.)

My view is this. Because their body belongs to you and you are married, you can see what is otherwise private and improper . Is that the proper way to explain this issue?

But God did not provide the covering until after sin entered the world, for an unspecified time Adam and Eve were naked and still sinless.

I was kind of thinking along the same lines as Darkhorse and others. Exposure to nudity is fine in many contexts. Medical professionals, criminal investigators and also caretakers are exposed to nudity as a matter of necessity. I don't think anyone would object to the morality of donating their body to science. Both nudity and dissection, in that instance, serve an important educational purpose - though in almost any other setting it would be vile.

So does posing nude serve an important educational purpose? Is art important? I think it is. Others may not think so. I certainly don't think nudity for pornographic purposes has any redeeming value. But I feel like the ability to draw the human form is valuable, and that drawing it from a nude perspective gives additional insights on how all the components fit together, on intricacies of muscle and skin, and how the external parts lay when unimpeded by clothes.

You may indeed find it liberating, or it could just be really awkward. Good luck!

Are you a woman? I do not mean to be rude, but you are a new user with a cartoon avatar and could very well be a man.

Yes, women have a problem with lust. But in general, women are not stimulated visually by a naked man. Yes, generalities can be made because this is scientific fact. This is why WOMEN read pornography like 50 Shades of Gray, while men WATCH pornography or LOOK at pornography. Sure, lots of women went to see the film, because it was in THE CONTEXT of a story.

I made a generality that is backed by science- men are far more visually and spatially gifted. Women are more auraully, tactile, olfactorily gifted. This probably goes back to women being primary child raisers while men were providers.

I have no doubt that more women are looking at pornography- we are currently living in a sexually saturated society. But, by in large, men are more susceptible to visual nudity than women.

I find your post to be on the attack against me rather than stating your personal opinions to the original poster.

I think there is a distinction between art and pornography. He is referring to art, so it is a thorny question.

I love God foremost and I love art. I think it would be sinful to model in the nude.

speaking historically, most of the nude models used to be in the sex industry. it was seen as another way to use their bodies to get cash.

that someone would not think twice about asking you as a Christian to model in the nude says much about how little they regard you personally, and Christians in general.

Divorce is serious. I think marriage is a sacrament and divorce is not to be entered lightly. So, no, if I were married, I would not divorce my husband over something so trivial. I just would rather he not pose nude.

Would you have a problem if your wife posed nude for male art students?

I am a woman.
I am 54 years old.
I am also a minister of the gospel.

I have seen spiritual strongholds in people's lives, from sins of the forefathers being repeated in their offspring's lives.
And I have seen those bondages broken, by the blood of Jesus.

Some people have hidden struggles most others have no idea about.
Weaker brothers and sisters should not be chastised and told to just get over their struggles.
We are indeed our brothers' keepers.

Jesus said that it would be better to be drowned with a millstone around the neck, than to put a stumbling-stone in front of a weak, young Christian.

American Christianity is all about personal liberty. Freedom. Individual license.
But that's not how the Bible tells us the Body of Christ is supposed to work.

For goodness' sake, I nor anyone else, is suggesting he go out and pose for pornography.

Do you think Michaelangelo's statue of David is pornographic? When I look at it, I see the beauty of the male form- but get no sexual stimulation at all.

There is a distinction to be made between art and pornography.

The question he has is, As a Christian, should he pose nude for art, since he is married?

There are a lot of layers, here, I think. It's an interesting ethical problem. I love art. I love the naked female and male forms in art. But, I get no sexual stimulation from art. I don't look at, watch, or read pornography.

Is it your position that nudity in art is the same as pornography?

Yes. It is.
My position comes from my background.
Because I come from a completely different culture.

We as Americans or Europeans tend to re-define morality by our cultural mores.
What society accepts, we think God must accept.
Because after all, it is not seen as wrong by everyone else!
Surely God must not mind!

But God told us what He thinks of public displays of nudity, in the Bible.
He leaves no room for us to redefine it to our own cultural preferences.

If we can redefine it to our cultural preferences, then really, nude beaches are just fine.
And if we wish, we could redefine soft porn as "art" and salve our consciences.
Hey, a Christian man could then go to the beach to watch the women, saying he is only admiring God's creation of the human form, as "art".
We humans do love to deceive ourselves about our hearts.

What do you think of Christian art depicting nudity, like Michaelangelo's painting The Creation of Adam which is on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome?

I think a painting or a statue is light years away from an actual naked person, photograph, or film of real people.

I don't know of a lot of men going into art galleries to get their jollies, or slobbering over nude paintings in an art book.
