Are you saved? If so, how do you know? Plus, how does one get saved? Can you lose it? Will you lose it? Would you ever want to lose it? Did you choose to get saved or did God choose for you? If God chose for you, how do you know God chose you specifically? Is there anything you can do to make God change His mind about that if He did do the choosing? If you aren't saved then why not? This is open to anybody & everybody who wants to contribute to this thread. I want to hear from you.

I believe I am saved because I heard the gospel and believed it. That's the main thing for me. Obviously there are fruits of the Spirit and Christ works through us, etc... but the main thing for me is I believed the good news. I believe God saved me because he chose me (Rom 8 and 9 gets into this pretty good). Btw I never thought I'd believe in being chosen to believe but once I set aside myself and had an open mind to allow scripture to speak for itself- I believe in "TULIP." I believe in "once saved always saved." I believe God saved me, period. I did nothing to deserve it therefore I can't do anything to deserve to keep it. I could easily write a book here lol.

Are you saved?

Yes!

If so, how do you know?

Complete faith and trust in Christ.

Plus, how does one get saved?

Salvation is God's work from eternity past to eternity future. He elects us before the foundation of the world to be recipients of his grace. In time, he uses the gospel message to change our hearts and bring us effectually to Jesus, and grants us faith and repentance. In the future he will resurrect us into new glorified bodies and we will be made perfectly in Christ's image!

Can you lose it?

You can't lose something you didn't earn in the first place

Will you lose it?

You can't lose something you didn't earn in the first place

Would you ever want to lose it?

I don't think the regenerate heart would ever be inclined towards such a thing.

Did you choose to get saved or did God choose for you?

Both, but which is the cart and which is the horse? I only chose God because He first chose me. My fallen nature would not have naturally been inclined to choose God. So if it was up to me ultimately, I would end up in hell.

If God chose for you, how do you know God chose you specifically?

Because I believe in Jesus.

Is there anything you can do to make God change His mind about that if He did do the choosing?

There is no shadow of turning in God.

If you aren't saved then why not?

Yes

The indwelling Holy Spirit is my guarantee.
Plus, how does one get saved?
Salvation is available to everyone that is lost, but circumstances (usually tragedies in their life) cause the person to “come to their senses” (like what happened with the Prodigal Son [Luke 15]). At those points in their life they can “chose” to accept God’s help (charity) or pride fully continue on their own until they die.

Can you lose it? Will you lose it? Would you ever want to lose it?
You salvation is like a Birth right (the Hebrew write uses that analogy) so it is impossible to just be “lost” or taken from you and even God will not take it away, but like Esau you can give it away.

Did you choose to get saved or did God choose for you?
It is not like you did “something” to be saved, it is more like a soldier fighting long and hard but the enemy is just so powerful and you’re so tied that you surrender to your enemy (which is God), really deserving nothing and not really expecting anything, since you are still the enemy when you surrender.
If God chose for you, how do you know God chose you specifically?
In all the parables of the banquet or wedding feast who was not invited and did some not turn the host down?

Are you saved?

I am being saved, yes.

If so, how do you know?
I believe that God keeps His promises, that my sins are forgiven, and that my qualification for eternal life is the righteousness of Christ. I've seen myself change throughout the years in ways that cannot be explained apart from the presence of the Spirit of God.

Plus, how does one get saved?
One does not "get saved". That requires the one being saved to be the subject of the sentence. God is the subject of the sentence. We are the direct object. :)

Can you lose it?
Not unless God breaks His promise and takes His Spirit away from me, after which I would no longer believe and would return to a life of sin. And since God never breaks a promise, I have nothing to fear.

Will you lose it?
Nope

Would you ever want to lose it?
No. I cannot choose to not believe something that I really believe. If I believe it, it is a part of me, and is no longer subject to choice.

Did you choose to get saved or did God choose for you?
God chose to save me, which has resulted in me choosing to be a Christian.

If God chose for you, how do you know God chose you specifically?
I am justified by the kind of faith that results in fruit.

Is there anything you can do to make God change His mind about that if He did do the choosing?
Of course not.

Are you Calvinistic at all? I believe God predestines the Freewilled.

I don't know what to call myself other than a Christian but I do believe "Calvinistic" interpretations of scriptures having to do with salvation. As I mentioned - I am new to believing we are chosen for salvation thanks to my brothers and sisters in this forum. I believe God pre-destined that we make choices and I also believe he predestined to heavily influence choices so that his plan(s) come to be.

For example: I come to a stream and will to cross it by the bridge infront of me. Then God stikes the bridge w/lightening. Now I cannot cross the bridge. But you may say, "Well thats an external influence and doesn't count."

Well, the following is more internal.

Example 2: I want to treat people very nicely today. But someone influences my will by putting me in a bad mood first thing in the morning. Now I'm not going to treat people as nicely as I wanted today.

We as people can influence people's free will. Just think of how much God can influence free will.

Just like I can make you mad or happy. God can harden or soften our hearts.

Last-but-not-least God can give birth to our spirit influencing us to make the choice to believe in the good news.

God is in control. I believe God is always the Initiator. He always takes the first step if you will. He chose us, we didn't choose him. He loved us, we didn't love him. He knew everything that would happen and got the ball rolling. He may react to occurances but no occcurance has happened unless he cause it to or allowed it to. Therefore I believe God is always the Initiator.

God loves everyone. But he doesn't love everyone in the same way. His love for Christians is likened to the love a husband has for his wife.

As a husband I love my wife in a special way that differs from the way I love all the other women in the world. I have a special, unique love for her.

Christ loves his church in the same way. God loves his people in the same way. He has a special love for His own called out people. Yet he still shows love to everyone else by sending rain on both the just and the unjust.

See Eph 5:25.

So I should still have all the gifts I've been given over the years on Christmas and birthdays? I can tell you from experience that I've lost most of them. And I certainly did nothing to earn them.

Why would you compare spiritual eternal life, which is God's work, God's doing, to a toy at Christmas?

First, when you "lose" a toy, you lose it because you forgot about it, or misplaced it. That's not the same as "unearning" salvation (losing salvation)

It's a terrible analogy you used.

Your analogy does not fit humans being children of God?

Do you love your children “differently”?

Not all are children of God. Some have Satan as their father.
