I wish I had that assurance.

Scripture also tells us how to receive the Holy Spirit, besides asking Jesus. This is what I did. I repented from all sin. I asked God to forgive me and give me His strength to never sin again. Acts 2:38 That was when I was physically filled to overflowing with His Spirit. Wow! What a rush! And the desire to sin was gone.
