  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are we to Judge?

you know, I was just thinking, when you hear a paster speaking, and somewhere in the sermon, challenges you to reach out to the lost, which is great, and is what we are called to do. but where I have a problem is, when they say, to bring a lost person to church or someone who you know is lost. I know of a paster who challenge people to write down a name of a lost person, and it got me to thinking, is this wrong and judging someone's soul, how can I say who is lost and who is saved?I mean, I am a little skepted of some of the people who surround me. but that dose not give me the right to say rather they are saved or not.

How can we know for sure if someone isn't a christian unless they say so, should we assume that everyone who dose not act christian are lost !? I had a problem writing a name down, but just need to ask God to send me someone who dose not know him. and not point fingers, by picking and choosing who's lost and who's not. I felt bad of the thought of assuming certain people in my life as lost, I felt like I was judging, have any of you every thought of this or have had the same problem?

I doubt your pastor meant you needed to try to decide who is a Christian and who isn't. Just invite people anyway.

My pastor says "I'm in sales, not administration", meaning, it's his job (and ours) to share the gospel with people but not to decide their standing before God.

A very good response Helen.

I hope what was sold, though, was understood by the buyers. Something of this value isn't understood by just everyone. Maybe, in truth, not everyone has bought it. If it is free then everyone has it that has accepted it, but if the cost is your life (to die to the world, give up your life of worldly ways) then some people have understood what they have bought and paid the requirements as dictated by the disciples and apostles of Jesus Christ.

This is a buyer's be aware, not beware!

I understand where you're coming from, George, but I'd have to agree with Helen. You don't have to decide whether someone is saved or not. If there's a person who is lost or hurting, coming to church could be good even if they are saved. Pray and ask God to lead you, to lay their name on your heart. It'll work.
