I think it is possible that God might prefer folk to help others rather than spend too much time praising him. A god who demands praise is a bit of a big head imo!

The laws/rules that God has set for us, are for our own good.
God does enjoy hearing us sing praises, but singing those praises does more for us than it does for God.
The world trys to corrupt the heart, it trys to turn it into a heart of stone. Where singing praises helps keep our hearts from turning stoney.

I hope God has a sense of humour because some of this stuff on this forum must keep him in stitches it is just SO far out. Maybe it is because the American fundamentalists are a breed apart! I am not saying that us Brits don't have a few extreme fundamentalists on British forums, we do, but they are not in the majority as they appear to be on CF, thank God!

I would say that God want us to do his will.

For me, God will was that I leave my Job, my Home, and my entire life so I can dedicate my whole life to his gospel. This was hard for me to do, but here I am.
God has a will for everyone. I know mine.

God made me for the purpose of being his messenger, so a messenger I will be.
If I have to concider my desires as a pipe dream, then let it be done and let it be done.

Obviously it is up to you how you live your life, I wouldn't presume to tell you otherwise, but I thought Jesus was unreasonable in expecting people to give up everything, including their family, for him!

Jesus didn't expect from everyone, to give up his familie because of Jesus.
But in some reason it might be better.

He expects, that he is more worth to you than your family your house your car and even you yourself.

I have felt like that so many times. I have felt like I did not give God enough time. I would tell myself that i was just too busy to even give God time, but He has convicted me of that. I know there are some things in my life that I will need to sacrifice in order to follow him. That is what he wants us to do. He wants us to deny ourselves and take up our cross daily. He wants to know that we are willing to sacrifice anything to follow him even if is hard. That is the price we pay for following him. He never said it would be easy for us to follow him. Thats what I realized and in order to move on in my relationship with him, I am going to have to give it my all and let the Lord take control of my life.

Once I thought I was being asked by God to do something, I was convinced of it in fact. I let my heart rule my head and the consequence was not good! Therefore never again will I do something against my better judgement, even if I think that God has put the idea in my head!

Well Jesus said this: "if you do not love less your father, your mother, your wife, your children, and yes even your own life, you canot be my deciples." It's not me that said this, it was Jesus. It is HIS requirement, not some random church.

While skipping all the other silliness and cynicism on this thread, a couple verses came to mind while reading the first post.

Now, keep in mind these are just things I've been convicted of but seems as if they are largely ignored by christians in general.

I was going to post just a couple verses but the entire chapter is just so good and deserves some attention:

Matthew 6

Giving to the Needy

1"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.


2"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Prayer

Do Not Worry

Not many of us are willing to follow the scriptures you posted. Those who love will easily follow the teachings Jesus gave on the mount.

The question is not weather we are slackers but do we care. The question can also be asked in this way: Do we love God and neighbor? Many ofcourse will say yes.

Unfortunity by the look of many peoples life, they do not. Even though they say they love, and even think they love, they do not really love. This can be determined be their actions.

My late, unlamented, father-in-law was a born again. He was asked to donate to a charity feeding the starving in Africa, the old man refused saying they needed Bibles, not food!!! That sort of attitude stinks!

He was right though. They do need bibles more then food. If you were to ask many christians without bibles if they wanted food insted thay would say no.

Hey, just a question. I am beginning to wake and pray at 6am, 12pm, and 12am. I am going to set aside a holy day to feast with God and give thanks to him. I feel the urge to be more involved in giving time to God in more ways than prayer and church. I feel that so many of us have time for the things that are not important. Such as our jobs, school, entertainment, etc. I mean mostly when we give our free time to these things and put in extra hours for them. I have been fasting and am now finishing up. Something God made VERY clear to me is that he is upset that we give less time to him because we occupy ourselves with the things he's blessed us with. God has asked me to stand like Jeremiah in this day and bring the attention to all of us. It is important that we begin to give him more time because we are becoming the holy that turn his fruit sour. I just ask that you all can help me make a movement for God and devote more time. Maybe some extra prayers, more conversations with him, giving more thanks, and asking him what he would like for us to do for him each day.
