Are we saved by our faith or by faith + something else? Works perhaps? Love and Forgiveness? Baptism? None of the above. We are forever saved by our faith in Christ and ONLY by our faith in Christ. I'll show you.

Our works do not have any part to play in our salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9). Our works are a chance for us to be rewarded by God and to show God that we love him and genuine faith in Christ will produce works. But, Christians who have no works were never saved in the first place. They don't have sufficient faith in Christ and it is a dead faith. As Matthew 25:35-40 and James 2:17 says.

Love and forgiveness are not requirements to salvation either. It's true, in Matthew 6:15 and Romans 13:10 we learn that if we do not forgive, we are not forgiven and that love is the fulfillment of the law. But, genuine faith in Christ would exhibit these things. Christians who don't love God and others and do not forgive others were never saved in the first place. Not that they are requirements for salvation.

Baptism is not a requirement for salvation either. Baptism is a chance for parents of an infant or a person of Christ to make a public declaration of faith. Mark 16:16 is NOT saying that baptism is required for salvation. Just look at the next statement in that verse for clarification it says "He who does not believe will be condemned". What Mark 16:16 is saying is that if one believes and is baptized he or she will be saved and if he believes and is not baptized he will still be saved. It doesn't say that baptism is required for salvation. If baptism were required for salvation the next statement in that verse would say something along the lines of "He who believes and is not baptized will be condemned" but, no it just says "but he who does not believe will be condemned." Implying that we are saved by our faith and not by baptism.

So in conclusion, the only way to interpret the entire bible is that we are saved by our faith and ONLY by our faith in Jesus Christ. You can not name a single verse in the bible that says that ANYTHING else is required for salvation. What do you think?

Many people lived and died before Jesus.
Any other theories?

Yes, you are correct. But they were saved by the same thing we are. Faith and hope in the Messiah.

What sort of faith are you talking about? Our Apostle Paul says we are saved by faith, yes, but also he says we need "faith working through love" (in Galatians 4:19).

So, how is "faith working through love" guaranteed to work?

To me, Hebrews 12:4-11 means that God is guaranteed to succeed in correcting His children, so we have His love's perfection >

"Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world." (1 John 4:17)

I see, from this, how Biblical faith has us in connection with God (1 Corinthians 6:17) so we are being effected by His grace in our character, making us more and more perfected in His own love which is living "in our hearts" (Romans 5:5). And this is our reason to "have boldness in the day of judgment", as our Apostle John says in 1 John 4:17.

But there are people who say they have faith but they are sinners and vile and sinful, yet they are guaranteed Heaven because God loves us. But they say not a word about how Hebrews 12:4-11 says God loves us and therefore corrects us so we are in His "peaceable fruit of righteousness" and "partakers of His holiness". They never talk about how we are becoming "partakers of His holiness" because of how God's grace in us corrects our nature.

But it is good to admit however we are wrong, and this can be humble and honest if we also are actively seeking God for real correction, of His love's perfection which 1 John 4:17 guarantees us who are His children > "in this world", he guarantees . . . no procrastination until after we die. This is about how God's love is almighty in us (Romans 5:5) to effect us and succeed.

So, do not judge by how you are now!! This is about how God is able to succeed in us.

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. James 2:18
True faith isn't faith in isolation from evidence of it. "By grace...through faith...not of works" (Ephesians 2.8-9) still applies; we may remember that the Lord Jesus said "By their fruits ye shall know them".

Of course, faith in Jesus is necessary. But there is "evidence" of true faith. It is more than believing in Jesus as the Son of God. Even the demons know that and tremble.

Someone of true faith exhibits sinlessness of willful sins. Sin is lawlessness. Only a true believer is given the gift of the Holy Spirit to indwell them and make them dead to sin. They cannot sin. So even if you say Jesus is your Lord, but have no power over sin, you are not known to Jesus as His.

Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

1 John 3:4-10 "Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. 6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. 10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

1 John 3:23 "And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.

I always suggest people study these verses and not become complacent in a false assurance of salvation.

Abraham believed God, so he was saved, and Abraham believed God, so he was careful to obey all of God's commands, so the same faith that saves us also requires our obedience, and we are not saved by our obedience but by the faith that requires it. Every instance of saved faith mentioned in Hebrews 11 is also an example of someone living in obedience to God's will, so Baptism is likewise an act of faith. Ephesians 2:8-9 is an incomplete thought without verse 10, where our salvation is for the purpose of doing good works. In Titus 2:11-13, our salvation involves being trained by grace to do good works and to renounce sin, so this training by grace through faith is a description of what our salvation looks like, not something done in order to earn our salvation. Our salvation is from sin (Matthew 1:21), so it necessarily involves being redeemed from the penalty of our sins and being trained to do good works and refrain from sin (Titus 2:14), and which necessarily involves love and forgiveness. Accepting Jesus is not about getting a ticket into heaven, but about getting heaven into us. It's about denying ourselves, being made into a new creation, and nothing less than signing up for a transformed life.

The one and only way that there has ever been to become saved is by grace through faith. According to John 8:56, Abraham rejoiced to see Messiah's day and was glad, so people who died before the cross looked in faith to the promised Messiah just as we do. In Genesis 6:8-9, it says that Noah found grace in the eyes of God and that he was a righteous man, and it was no accident that he was righteous, but rather he had been trained how to rightly live by grace and was righteous because he obeyed through faith, so he was saved in the exact same way that we are.

To have salvation is to believe in the 'finished' work of our Lord Jesus

HE went to great measures to pay our sin debt. We MUST put our complete salvation in
HIS 'finished' work . Otherwise we blaspheme HIS holy name and make void HIS work for us
