This question has always been posited as the proof that nothing is certain, because no one can know that they aren't just a brain in a jar somewhere, but now I seem to be seeing more and more evidence that this "theory" might just be real.

If you were an alien race that was harvesting humans for energy, you would likely want to make the harvesting process more efficient, correct? Well one way to make that process more efficient is to cut down on how much code needs to be run to simulate human interactions. I think that a very clever solution would be to create something that causes people to interact with one another on a very basic level without needing to simulate anything at all but words on a screen. Therefore, I suggest that internet forums are evidence of The Matrix.

Just think about how much easier it would be for said alien race to send texts, "like" comments, and make posts all in the name of keeping us running without needing much energy spent on their part.

Then think about people escaping The Matrix. Internet forums can be monitored and edited instantly and easily by a super-intelligent computer program. In doing this, the aliens can keep people from alerting others to the fact that they are in The Matrix to begin with.

And what about terrorism and fear-mongering? Being afraid makes us more likely to stay at home and not to go out and mingle with other humans, which undoubtedly will save on energy costs because you don't need to render a whole city full of people all the time if they are just staying in doors.

Has anyone else seen evidence that seems to suggest we are all just brains in jars?

I've been swallowing every red pill I can find... no luck yet.

I guess my question is somewhat rhetorical. I've seen that movie before, not sure if I agree with you about that Keanu guy, but just wondering why they call it the matrix.

"Matrix" is a mathematical term often used in computer science.

Um, yeah. Noticing things that would happen a regular world of people is not evidence of an illusion. In fact, the whole "harvest humans for energy" thing seems a)incredibly cost inefficient; you would probably use all the energy humans would generate just to maintain the illusion, and, when considering an illusion, b) there is no reason to connect people to a machine that connects all other brains if you can control every aspect of the mind.

Wouldn't make much sense. If an alien race did exist and had the technology to do this, they would be able to find a much better source of power.

In the movie, the machines were forced to do this because the humans blocked out the sun which is what they relied upon for power.

"JAVA" is the name of an operating language that somewhat resembles the tetragrammaton. It's close but not quite. Likewise, the word "matrix" is used in mathematics for a reason. Perhaps that is an immaculate division by zero, after all.

They probably named the movie "The Matrix" because it was a computer/mathematical term that sounded cool.

You might think that with the technology we have right now, but who knows what year it really is. Maybe the transistors on CPUs are down to nearly an atomic scale and can use a fraction of the energy we use now to fire between the off/on states that they do. Heck, their computers might not even work like ours to create the illusion, who knows how much energy they need to run a simple video game.

there is no reason to connect people to a machine that connects all other brains if you can control every aspect of the mind.
You see, though, when they make us interact with each other they don't have to run a bunch of AI code to simulate other real people. We move the machine ourselves. Now they've just found a way to get us interacting without all those rendering costs.

Does it make you wonder if the machines are pro-life or pro-choice?
That's a good point! Of course they would be pro-life, just more batteries for the machine, right? Do you think that Republican politicians could be malicious code in the program to spread this viewpoint? Because they certainly seem to operate with a sort of hive mind that would suggest this very thing.

It's all right there in front of you! You just don't want to see it.

I'm sorry...what's the aliens' goal in all this? Energy?

Mankind uses more energy than it creates...if I'm not mistaken. If aliens were after energy resources...they'd probably engineer a virus to kill all humans and then just take from the Earth whatever they need.

An elaborate illusion for so little gain seems like a big big waste of time.
