• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are we alone?

It would be pretty boring if we are alone, and also pretty terrifying if aliens are really coming here and abducting people.

What I don't understand is why most Christians are so quick to laugh away any UFO sightings and testamonies from eye-witnesses when Christianity is entirely is based on eye-witness accounts.

Btw, slightly off-topic, but I don't know if anyone here has seen the new show "Miracles" but it's about an ex-priest who goes around investigating paranormal occurances, but while he was a priest he investigated so-called miracles to try and prove or disprove them. So I'm just wondering, does the Roman Catholic church really have a division of priests who investigate so-called miracles?

Seriously, though, I don't believe in conscious life on other planets or in other galaxies (things like plant life, insects, bacteria, viruses could be indeed possible) because belief in conscious life on other planets presents some major theological and soteriological questions.

Look at what AiG thinks about ET:

2. THE BIBLE
(a) Scripture does not mention ‘ET’ visits.

The Bible, the revealed written Word of God, teaches that life is only possible through a process of creation. Even if there were other galaxies with planets very similar to Earth, life could only be there if the Creator had fashioned it. If God had done that, and if these beings were going to visit us one day, then He would surely not have left us unenlightened about this.

God has given us rather specific details of the future — for example, the return of Jesus, and some details about the end of the world. The universe will, at some future point, be rolled up like a scroll (Isaiah 34:4, Revelation 6:14). If God had created living beings elsewhere, this would automatically destroy their dwelling place as well. Adam’s sin caused all of creation to be affected by the curse, so why would a race of beings, not of Adam’s (sinful) seed, have their part of creation affected by the Curse, and then be part of the restoration brought about by Christ, the last Adam? All of this would seem exceedingly strange.

"God didn't tell us, so it can't be true." utter nonsense.

OTHER THINGS GOD DIDN'T TELL US ABOUT (A partial list)

the Internet, NASCAR, Christopher Columbus, Microsoft Windows, Vanilla Coke, DVD players, toilet paper, Men on the moon, Chess tournaments, John Carpenter movies, Bowling, The Dukes of Hazzard, Country-Western music, The Detroit Red Wings, Jack the Ripper, Alice in Wonderland, Dr. Seuss, Carrot Top's 1-800-CALL-ATT commercials, fraterinity hazing, Johnny Knoxville, and the Electric Slide.

And yet all these things exist. And let me tell you, I'd like God's explanation on a couple of these...

YOu know the funny thing? If God himself came down and told you in person the things that were true, you'd probably rationalize it away anyhow.

Well hey tell god to come to earth and tell me what's true. :p

All the evidence we have shows that life could exist in other places in the univese. Even god knows that it's true. :)

You know whats even funnier? You have just managed to dodge the question and throw in a pointless attack on Nathan Poe's capacity to evenly evaluate things in the same sentence. Try 3 at once next time.

*engage Christianity mode*
Maybe God is keeping quiet to see how we react to circumstances not covered in the bible, to see whether we truly understand his word and can apply the spirit of it to new situations.
*disengage*

You may be right. I'd do what any rational person would do: write it up as a psychotic delusion and seek professional help.

Now answer my question: AiG would have us believe that if something important's not mentioned in the Bible, it's not true. Do you agree with this statement?

I think that in the present time it is pointless to discuss about it.
It is a distraction from spreading the gospel.
If aliens ever land, they better have their green cards.

I think that if you're going to try to use jokes to avoid the question, you should at least make them funny. :p

Hmm, that brings up an interesting though.

Aliens have never heard of Jesus, so do they go to hell?

Maybe aliens didnt choose the fruit and god isnt mad at them like us. Hmm, that kinda makes aliens Angels (sons and daughters of god, that are treated better than us :) )

Arent Angels important?

;) :D

If there is alien life then the universe must be buzzing with radio activity for millions of years yet nothing not even a commercial.

an alien lifeform that had intelligence could be 500 million years advanced so that gives a lot of space for signal to reach us (more than enough in our own galaxy) yet we only receive cosmic produced noise. Chances are that we are alone.
Perhaps God made the Earth his unique place.

Unfortunatly, no. Quite frankly, its expected for the universe to be quiet.

First of all, to find a radio signal from another race they need to have created a way to transmit radio signals, outside their own solar system. Then that signal needs to travel all the way to earth, and happen to get here just around the same time we are looking for those signals.

Scientists have done the math and have found it to be Very Very lucky if SETI were to find a signal, as there are so many things that need to come together just at the right moment for us to find that signal.

So the chance of SETI finding something is very very slim. But they look anyway, instead of assuming something.

:)
