Your neighbor pays bills? What bills would that be? Cable TV? Internet? High electric bill because of all the tv sets, pc, air conditioning, food that is unhealthy?
What does he do with this house? Just use it on himself in a selfish fashion? Or does he help the poor and needy?

So it's ok for you to do it until everyone agrees with you? I never said or even argued against whether living a Christian life was a sin. And you just agreed with my position. So what's the problem? God calls people to do many different things. Some of which has more down time than others. Some people become pastors, etc. Some do not, they just help out where they can.

So if I understand this correctly. The act of not knowing, is a sin? Someone doesn't have the means, or the knowledge to help a lot, is breaking the commandments of Jesus?

Well he works a part time job, pushing carts at a grocery store. He has electric and water, nothing else. No one is beating down his door to stay with him, most people are put off by him, because he is mentally slow. So yes, he lives alone. I suppose you find the fact that most people won't go around him because of his condition to be selfish on his part right?

On the other hand opening your house to others can be quite dangerous. I do on occasion for certain people that I atleast know enough about to place a little trust in. Jesus wants people to help, not be wreckless about it. But thats really for another topic.

If you break man's law, can you tell the judge "I didn't know that was a law" as a defense?
People know how to do evil, but doing good they avoid and teach others to do the same.

We are called to work together, this will make up the body of Christ, and the results will be exactly as if Christ was here in the flesh.

Your actions have an effect on people.
If you're open hearted, loving, look at people as more important than yourself(basicly the attitude of Christ), that will have a positive attitude on society.
If you're cold hearted, selfish, full of excuses, that will have a negotive attitude on society.
The more christians that don't live like Christ, the more problems will arise.

i have played video games many years and this post is kinda a testimony in itself. i have even gotten to the point of idolizing them. i bought a ps3, xbox 360, wii, nintendo ds, psp, xbox, gamecube, xbox, and playstation 2. i would even buy games that i had no desire to play and would just collect to my hearts content. what was so funny about this whole concept is that, i felt empty. like there was no desire to play the games, i became selfish and didn't want no one to play them but only me and i would want them to be amazed by what i collected.

i'm sorry but i gave up that sin. video games for me made me selfish and arrogant and made me draw further away from jesus christ then closer to him. just these past few months i rebuked that demonic spirit and gave away pretty much all my systems and games. and all i'm currently left with now is a playstation 3, a wii, and a nintendo dsi. i'm giving my wii to my sister on her birthday next month (may 13th) but just to know that one earthly entertainment device can corrupt your mind away from god, just made me sick to my stomach.

many people thought i was stupid and crazy and would say "as long as you play in moderation". moderation wasn't a problem with me. i couldn't play video games no longer than a hour and i would drop the joystick and move to something else and that something else was buying more and more games.

if your a gamer or a christian, one console is enough. i have one currently and that's the playstation 3 but i have no games, but i'm looking to buying final fantasy 13 next month.

video games is not a problem. i do know entertainment is corrupted and can be a black hole and can draw you away from christ if you allow it to. it happened to me.

if we would care more about others, that should be our central entertainment. knowing someone is getting the care they need or talking to others, encouraging them about god or spending more time in the word or fellow shipping, more bible study gatherings. if your a christian, the word will never get stale or boring, it would be the center pinnacle of entertainment for you.

the bible and being christ-like is what true salvation is. walking the walk, talking the talk like christ. video games don't bring anything but a source of entertainment for the individual for a few hours and it dies off.

i like video games, i see nothing wrong with them personally. but there is more to do than to be caught up in entertainment. more people can be saved and more people can be happy.

entertainment should be the word of god (bible). that's it! but a lot of people don't do that or they do but want some worldly entertainment also.

i'm happy i'm delivered from idolizing video games. putting consecutive hours into gaming can begin to make you idolize video games. if you game a hour and that's it. i see nothing wrong with that at all but if you have important priorities in your life that your ignoring just to please yourself, well that's selfish and wrong not to yourself but to others and god because your idolizing now.

violent games like shooting other humans, war games, horror games. those games i refuse to play because they mean nothing but abuse the natural human form. but games like final fantasy 13, brain teasing games are by far useful and have meaning especially role-playing games. sure they have false magic use and such but the story is the spotlight of those games and its just like reading a book.

again, i mainly get bored with video games after an hour or so. so moderation is not my problem, the problem was me being selfish and idolizing video games more than god on purchasing habits and to know i'm delivered and can feel free and play one game at a time, is a true blessing and to know i don't have the attention span to sit in front of a tv for more than an hour is another blessing.

i thank the lord for the word of god though! that's my form of entertainment!

I used to bet NUTS for video games, I have spent thousands on fast computers, I've owned most of the consoles that have come out, made some mods(modifications to existing PC games that change the elements of the game for a new experience), I even did some contract 2D/3D artwork for a comercial game. I was into the Battlefield series, Left 4 Dead, Duke Nukem, Elder Scrolls, Half Life etc. My friends and I would play Battlefield hour after hour online together.

Then as I became a Christian it became obvious to me and my friend that these games' content wasnt exactly something we would invite Jesus to sit down and play with us if we could. We asked ourselves, "could we see the Lord Almighty being entertained and enjoying war simulation video games?" "Is God up there smiling upon us as we kill virtual characters over and over again with a 12 guage shotgun for entertainment?" Are we learning anything? Is this profitable to the spirit? Does this glorify God in any way whatsoever? The answer we came to is No. We fought this conclusion for a time, looking for any way we could justify playing these games. It couldnt be done.

So I decided to not play violent games or games with anti-God messages or games with sex and foul language anymore. How many games does that leave you with? Not many. I even had to step down from my contract 2D/3D work I was doing, which was the only possible career I had going at the time. I suppose if I happen to somehow find a game company that doesnt put all the usual filth in their games, I can work there but I dont hold much hope for that LOL.

I have from time to time been tempted to play some violent games since, and have given in a few times. But I was always left feeling ugly inside and guilty for doing so.

Overall I think video games are a major time waster. I feel the same way about most films and television. I'll be honest and say that I do still play a few video games with much friendlier content, but not nearly as much as I once did. I would prefer to be doing something for God or others but thats another story...I still go to some gaming websites quite often, I dont know why...I tell myself its because I like to see the progress made in real-time 3D rendering but whatever. Some day I'll stop going to those sites too.

If you can play some of these types of games and be ok with that, thats up to you. I could be wrong on this and maybe God doesnt mind us indulging in this kind of stuff. I dont know. I doubt it, but I dont know. Its up to the individual to think about and decide.

Ummmmm.... there are tons. Most sports, racing and puzzle games are totally fine. A LOT of the Nintendo family games (in the "Wii" line and also Mario games) and platformers, are totally fine.

It sounds like your gaming world was centred on FPS games.

Yeah I play some mario games and racing, but the others dont interest me much. FPS was definitely my favorite genre.

I believe that we have the ability to distinguish reality and fiction so that fiction and entertainment does not need to be morally up to code with our actual actions. If someone becomes fascinated by actual violence the problem is much deeper than video games. Psychological studies into incidents that were originally blames on music/games have shown that entertainment was not to blame.

Are you serious. I believe i agree with if its done in moderation its okay. " all things are lawful but not all things are helpful." and the only calling we have been given is that of love not of staring at the wall. If someone ne3glects their responsibilties for the sake of these things, that is when it becomes a problem. Because then that becomes a lover of the things in the world. And I am pretty sure you have some form of entertainment unless you live in the boondocks with a couch and a wall.

Well I have to admit I really like playing Final Fantasy, and when I was still a newbie to the RPG world, I asked the clerk at gamestop if the game had any demons in it, and he said it didn't but I have to beg to differ...however that may be I have tried to cut my time to video games to no more than an hour or two per day, because I really don't want it to interfere with my life. I have wondered if it is a sin to summon Ifrit who is really a big devil from h*** but I try not to summon him at all. Only the other aeons/espers/creatures like Shiva. Anyway I am open to comments, btw I LOVE chess! To try to summarize what I am actually trying to say, I've wondered if it is a sin, but I also watch violent movies because my friend (who is also a Christian) thinks or seems to think if you watch a movie that doesn't have violence you're like watching a chick flick (oh no!)

You are definitely doing things by tiresome works instead of being led by the spirit and doing the smallest things. Are main goal was to keep the Law of love in the sermon on the mount and all the summary of it where in two commandments. Loving not the mindset of the world or holding the things in the world as an idol were also our spiritual guidance. But to just go looking for the poor when your next door neighbor or your coworker needs help or even your enemy and fail to do it is not right and all your searching becomes pointless. You can help people with a single smile or a hello to lift their day though you do not know them. Or when someone asks to borrow something or needs something and you give it to them without expecting or asking for it in return. All these things which are small and consist of great faith. These things we are called to do. We are called to enjoy life according to the law of love live with kindness, happiness and rejoicing. All things are lawful just somethings are not helpful. You are starting to slip into the route of a pharisee brother. And your judging with something in your heart not according to truth or love.
