Are there any good Christian jazz groups?

I know of some good hip hoppers and gospel art. Kaboose , Appointed, Mic Won & Thomas Mitchell.

Sam Levine is a talented Christian sax player. He released an album in 2001 entitled Jazz from the Heart (a collection of smooth jazz hymns)

Also worth looking into is Phil Driscoll. He released an album in 1999 called Plugged In. His vocals are very bluesy (throaty sort of like Joe Cocker), and the album features him playing the trumpet. I honestly don't know how a white guy can sound this funky!!!

Specifically what kind of jazz are you looking for? Swing, modern, or what?

Denver & the Mile High Orchestra is the only Swing band I know that exists in Christian music. Their latest, Good to go, is nice. It has a song on there that reminds me of the easy-listening Acid jazz style of British group Incognito ("Positivity"), the song is called "Live Your Love". I'm also ordering his slightly older CD's "Act to Scat" and "Stand". I'm too new here to list his site, but if you do a search in google, you'll find him easily. You can listen to his CD's there. Kirk Whalum has put out some very nice Christian jazz in the last couple of years - Gospel According to Jazz (I & II), Hymns in the Garden, etc. Anointed has some good stuff - a couple good ones on each album (Under the Influence, God Spot, The Call, etc.)

Even though Dave Brubeck is not listed as Christian, he was noted for being one of the cleanest in the industry at the time (50's - 70's) - no drugs, no writing under the influence of drugs/drinking. His "Dave Brubeck's Essentials" (2 CD collection) I believe is an absolute must have for any serious jazz fan - almost all instrumental. Dennis Prager (talk show host) has rightfully labeled his piece "Take Five" as the piece for those interested in jazz to start with.

I agree with the person above on Phil Driscoll's "Plugged In". I'm just now starting Christian jazz hunt myself, and it's not easy to find, but it's growing.
