  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The left spent at least twenty years prior to 2016 demanding that Christians separate their religion from their vote.

Congratulations, left, you gave us President Trump.

Edit- I should add that it's mostly Boomers who are worried about their respectability with regards to Trump voters. The generations younger than the Boomers mostly couldn't care less.

Considering that 2020 is likely to be the last election where Boomers are a political consideration, I don't think their concerns are worth listening to anymore. If they ever were. Which is doubtful.

Hmmm. What I got out of the article is that the White Evangelicals were being called out for not following the teachings of Jesus and therefore they should not be allowed to define what Christianity is for the rest of the world.

The evidence for that is their support for a President who violates nearly every teaching of Jesus in his life and politics. The battle is not for political supremacy. The battle is over whether Jesus is the head of Christianity or political leaders (read: Satan) are.

The writer of that article is straight from the "Christian left". He's grinding a political ax, be sure of that. This is ALL about politics.

Incidentally, evangelicals didn't vote for Trump because they think he believes the same stuff they do.

No, the battle actually is for political supremacy.

And, of course, since you branded him from the "Christian left" no one is expected to listen to him, huh? That is so different from the White Evangelicals who are only speaking 'lovingly' about aliens, homosexuals, women, Blacks, walls etc.

Incidentally, White Evangelicals voted for Trump because he offered them political authority. And that is unlike Jesus who rejected the third temptation of Satan which would allow Him to rule all the nations of the land.

If that is true...and I'm hoping it isn't...then the religion of Christianity has already been lost to the dominion of the Evil One and there is no saving it.

Those few who actually do believe Jesus' teachings as found in the Bible are the only true teachings of God...and I would number them in the hundreds world-wide...will need to give up the title of Christian since it has no meaning for the true believer.

From the looks of things, not very many people are listening to him as it is.

Wow, really?

Um, He will rule all the nations in the end.

White American Evangelicals are being called out for their support of President Trump:

Reclaiming Jesus from the Trump Evangelicals
Happily, I'm not an evangelical but a Catholic. Happily I didn't vote for Trump OR Hillary.

I see that so many evangelicals voting for Trump ended up tarnishing the evangelical brand, which is sad. But I see the article you linked to as almost a political thing of the religio-political left castigating the religio-political right. I think both of them smell.

You are likely correct, not many people are listening to him. Fortunately, being correct about something is not determined by how many followers one has on Facebook...or anywhere else. As my father used to tell me, even if millions believe in a bad idea it does not change the fact that it -is- a bad idea.

And if one believes Paul in I Corinthians 15, Jesus will not be ruling 'all the nations in the end'. In the end, Jesus will hand the entire world, all wrapped up in a bundle, to the Father so God can be 'All in All'.

Just sayin'.

Perhaps the real question is who smells the least.......

I think if one were to look objectively to Jesus' teachings and how he lived His life, one would have a difficult time being a capitalist or being politically active along with the standard things like racist, sexist, nationalist, bully, hateful, etc.

The reality is that America makes a VERY poor representative of Jesus' life and teachings.

It would foolish of me to claim to know all two billion people who claim the title of 'Christian'.

I do really believe if there are more than a few hundred world-wide, the amount of Divine Love flowing into the world would have been noticed by now.

Because some people voted for Trump instead of Hillary? Not likely. ;)

Go back and look at what you wrote and I replied to. There was no implication of how one voted. Heck, I'll just post both here:

Nothing there about one candidate being superior to the other.

Much more than hundreds or tens of thousands I'd think. Since loving others (loving more than only those who love us back) and forgiving easily are signs, i think many millions are doing these, though it's guessing. But I've seen more then just a few that love widely.

Well, if that article from a liberal wasn't satisfactory, how about this one from John Piper?

T
oday we will inaugurate a man to the presidency of the United States who is morally unqualified to be there. This is important to say just now because not to see it and feel it will add to the collapsing vision of leadership that enabled him to be nominated and elected.

Not only that, but if we do not see and feel the nature and weight of this sorrow, we will not know how to pray for his presidency or speak as sojourners and exiles whose pattern of life is defined in heaven, not by the mood of the culture.
How to Live Under an Unqualified President

If evangelicals had merely said, "Hold your nose and vote for Trump" (as many Republicans did), this wouldn't be an issue.

The problem is not that evangelicals voted for Trump, the problem is that evangelicals insist that Trump is God's Great Man. Evangelicals insist on calling Trump a godly man, a good Christian, which the world clearly sees he is not in any way.

The real problem of the hearts of American Evangelicals is that they cannot do what Piper has done: Determine that their real home is Heaven, and that they're only pilgrims and sojourners in the United States. Once Christians realize where their home is, these issues go away.

Why would it? Who is going to tell that tale around the world? The secular media? The American Christian media that is focused on its own navel?

Perhaps. But I still hold that voting for Trump was absolutely the right thing for me to do. As it happens, my political opinion is the only one I'm all that concerned with.

And if one believes Paul in I Corinthians 15, Jesus will not be ruling 'all the nations in the end'. In the end, Jesus will hand the entire world, all wrapped up in a bundle, to the Father so God can be 'All in All'.
A distinction without any meaningful difference.

Considering that 2020 is likely to be the last election where Boomers are a political consideration, I don't think their concerns are worth listening to anymore. If they ever were. Which is doubtful.

 In 2020, Boomers born in 1946 will still only be 74 years old. Those born in 1950 will be 70 and those born in 1963 will be 57. Given that seniors tend to be the most reliable voting demographic, I don't think their influence is going to wane for two or three more presidential elections.
