Why Huntsville's First Seventh-day Adventist Church is starting a Sunday worship service | AL.com

Hi everyone... Just dropped by to ask how things are going? Is your faith strong to handle the falling away? I wish everyone of you all the strength to keep the faith until His return. I was just concerned about this little bit of news and hope that it is not trending across the face of SDA. You have stood out in the wilderness of sin as a beacon of light that "YES" gentiles do keep the Sabbath in honor of our Creator and Redeemer. I support and applaud you in this. Praying for you all.

Thank you and may God cause His face to shine upon you as well!!

Unfortunately, the rabbit hole of apostasy within Adventism is deep with many tunnels, ... however, we were warned of this as Christ's return draws near.

To address the query of your thread title, the foundation and the pillars are as secure as they have always been, they are truth and cannot be moved. It is those that chose not to stand upon them that are in error and need to get back on the foundation.

Uneasy. For sure is the frame of mind. Several months ago there was discussion on the forum about Oakwood University getting heavy on “Spiritual Formation” which tends to be drawn from and leans on thought from the Dark Ages. My daughter graduated from Andrews containing similar ideas. I have not had enough exposure to define if/how “Spiritual Formation” veers from the true but the sources of the train of thought are enough to make one wary.

As for the Huntsville church finding an excuse for Sunday morning “worship.” As for appealing to the farewell party for Paul being an example of Sunday “worship,” that’s the kind of logic that slid into the days of Constantine and setting aside of apostolic customs and Biblical teaching.

I’m with you – that has nothing to do with foundations of “the” faith. But it does heighten wariness about what comes from “approved” channels. Especially when so much of the “approved” channels are stuffed with doctorates from “unapproved” centers. I heard it said recently that going for a doctorate is a brainwashing process. Maybe not far wrong.

It is like walking on the ledge of the cliff... you could easily fall... and not many can walk that close to the edge and not fall especially if it gets windy.

Praying you all will keep the faith and keep growing closer to Him as the day draweth nigh. I am glad to hear this is not invasive yet... I hate to see these things come creeping in.

Thank you for bringing your concern about us to us here. :thumbsup:

The SDA Church unfortunately isn't immune to this sort of thing, however, even though these things happen, and the SDA Church may even reach the "about to fall" point, the thing is that it doesn't fall. The day is coming that the tares that cause all these problems will be sifted out and the wheat will remain.

Thank you also for your prayers. :thumbsup:

visionary, I appreciate your concern, the Sabbath is a blessing that I wouldn't be without for anything in this world.

Yet I think we have to admit that there's nothing in the Bible that prevents us from holding services on other days of the week, and I wish adventists in my local area would meet more often than they do. There's nothing new about the fact that adventists will have regular religious meetings on various days of the week, including the Sunday. Doing so won't subtract from the sanctity of the Sabbath, and in this instance meetings are held in order to reach unchurched people. Going to a meeting on Sunday doesn't imply that you are observing that day as a holy day, to keep the Sabbath holy means much more than attending Church.

I do believe that questionable things happens in the adventist church, but I don't think there's any reason to be afraid of meetings held on Sundays, per se. I'd be much more worried about the fact that many seem to take Sabbath observance lightly and feel free to participate in questionable activities on the Sabbath, rather than services held on the Sunday or other days.

“Whenever it is possible, let religious services be held on Sunday. Make these meetings intensely interesting. Sing genuine revival hymns, and speak with power and assurance of the Saviour's love. Speak on temperance and on true religious experience. You will thus learn much about how to work, and will reach many souls.”

The danger, in my mind, is that people will be lead to not stand firm when the test comes... the three worthies could have bent over and fiddled with their sandals and "technically" not been worshipping the image on the plains of Dura but is that what God expects from us? Wishy washy, capitulating, lukewarm worship? I want to be the one standing tall and shouting to the king that I will not compromise the worship of my God.

Our church group meets every night for 1/2 an hour to an hour, singing ,reading devotionals, and group reading a chapter from whatever book we are doing at the time. This has helped us all, over the last 5 years, to spiritually keep our minds focused on God and His requirements. Sabbath we study and fellowship for 2-4 hours and gather at the beginning and ending to offer prayers and songs of praise. We do not, however, advertise ourselves, or think of ourselves as something we are not to gain favour or for recruitment.

Find some like minded people in your church and use Skype to group conference. I couldn't imagine staying connected to the Vine by only meeting once or twice a week... way too much distraction out there.

Hello Visionary,

How are you doing?

We had been warned:
”Men in responsible positions will not only ignore and despise the Sabbath themselves, but from the sacred desk will urge upon the people the observance of the first day of the week, pleading tradition and custom in behalf of this man-made institution." Southern Watchman, June 28, 1904.

However we also know and believe in this:
"The church is God’s fortress, His city of refuge, which He holds in a revolted world. Any betrayal of the church is treachery to Him who has bought mankind with the blood of His only-begotten Son. From the beginning, faithful souls have constituted the church on earth. In every age the Lord has had His watchmen, who have borne a faithful testimony to the generation in which they lived. These sentinels gave the message of warning; and when they were called to lay off their armor, others took up the work. God brought these witnesses into covenant relation with Himself, uniting the church on earth with the church in heaven. He has sent forth His angels to minister to His church, and the gates of hell have not been able to prevail against His people.{AA 11.2}

Through centuries of persecution, conflict, and darkness, God has sustained His church. Not one cloud has fallen upon it that He has not prepared for; not one opposing force has risen to counterwork His work, that He has not foreseen. All has taken place as He predicted. He has not left His church forsaken, but has traced in prophetic declarations what would occur, and that which His Spirit inspired the prophets to foretell has been brought about. All His purposes will be fulfilled. His law is linked with His throne, and no power of evil can destroy it. Truth is inspired and guarded by God; and it will triumph over all opposition. {AA 11.3}

During ages of spiritual darkness the church of God has been as a city set on a hill. From age to age, through successive generations, the pure doctrines of heaven have been unfolding within its borders. Enfeebled and defective as it may appear, the church is the one object upon which God bestows in a special sense His supreme regard. It is the theater of His grace, in which He delights to reveal His power to transform hearts.{AA 12.1}" ---The Acts of the Apostles, p11-12.
