Are the 10 Commandments Required for Christians? Is the Sabbath important to God?

I can't see what is to hate about it. It makes no sense.
Neither does it make any sense to lift it above any of the other commandments.

Frankly, this whole debate is a mystery to me.

The real problem is the Sabbath is either hated or worshipped.

I think you got the worshipped part correct. But as for me personally I do not hate the Sabbath. It however is not part of the covenant governing me as a Christian.

What puzzles me, is, Americans originally were Protestants.

Our Constitution guarantees us the right to worship as we see fit. If we decide that we wish to worship a rock, we are free to do so.
I believe the first people to come here were Puritans, and that they came here to escape religious persecution.
The freedom to worship...or not...is considered one of our most precious freedoms.

I guess freedom of religion is afforded only when one is a Christian. All other religions have no place in the public square.

While I do agree with the first part of your post, I have to admit, prayers to strange gods in the Senate make me uncomfortable.
I seem to recall God having said something about putting no other Gods before Him.
Is it a double standard, then, for those people to stand up for what they believe? It's a tough call...and I am incredibly thankful that I am not the one who has to make it.

For me, the Sabbath is Lawful and for Christians is written on the heart and mind because it is the New Covenant Lord's Day of Worship-Rest "BECAUSE JESUS GAVE THEM (The People of God) Rest HE HAVING ENTERED INTO HIS OWN REST AS GOD IN HIS OWN" having RAISED from the dead (when) "there was a great earthquake ON THE SABBATH DAY IN FULLNESS OF THE SABBATH BEING IN THE SABBATH'S MID-AFTERNOON before the First Day of the week&#8221; ktl.
