Are Owls bad/evil?

Yea. The silent way it sweeps down. Just a wee bit spooky don't you think? And they only come out in the dark.

:)

unless they are caring for their young.... I have watched these magnificent birds many times... they also hunt during the day when feeding their young and are quite dangerous if you get near their nest... which is about 60 feet up.... so not much danger to humans unless they think you're messing with their chick... and believe me they are more scary in person.... it is so cool to have them watching you with their head spinning around and the body stays still. I have been out watching their chick and looked over and there is a 2 1/2 foot tall angry owl (totally silent) right over my head watching to see if i'm messing with her baby.

I was raised to believe this. The basis for this belief was that owls are only referred to negatively in the Bible as part of pagan worship.

Sidenote: Even to this day I have an aversion to owl figurines.

Please forgive me if I'm coming across as rude. But I just have to ask this. What is it with you, The Unforgettable Fire, and an endless stream of odd/strange threads started by you? Surely I am not the only one to notice.
Hey, it's a public forum so go nuts in participating here by all means. But seriously, these thread topics by you are just bizarre. I'm really sorry, but I just have to say this.

Is this a serious question? Are owls of God? Is it a sin to enjoy sex? Is it a sin to take your child to the doctor? Does God love you but not like you, etc, etc? Is streaking a sin? What sort of questions are these? As a response to another thread of yours about testing whether you are a witch or not, one poster recommended putting a broom between your legs and seeing what happened. A kind of obviously ridiculous and frivolous answer to match the thread.

Seriously Unforgettable Fire. If some non Christians frequented this site, what do you think they would think of Christians asking such oddball questions? Have you considered that?

To answer your question, these are all serious beliefs I have either encountered throughout my life or are beliefs held at some point within Christianity.

They were posted as half silly and half asking for an honest response, however people choose to respond.

Seriously Unforgettable Fire. If some non Christians frequented this site, what do you think they would think of Christians asking such oddball questions? Have you considered that?

What would people think? Probably the same thing that people thought about Jesus when He said...

..."I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you." - John 6:53

It was only those who chose to believe he wasn't crazy who were eventually able to look deeper into who Jesus was and consequentially eventually understood what he was actually saying.

There is a term for it. Its called "telling it slant."

Christians believe God became a man,was born of a virgin, died and rose again to save the world. On the surface this belief sounds just as crazy as anything I have posted. For those though who are willing to look deeper, to consider there is more than what they might understand on the surface, find something that changes their lives. It did for the disciples who stayed.

My point is, Jesus didn't concern himself with people thinking he was crazy. My questions, though they may appear to be bizzare to you, have much more to them than most here have bothered to explore.

Nevertheless, I have asked for my provocative posts to be closed because it is apparently upsetting some people and and no one really bothered to truly engage in the questions other than to be comical which is fine, like I said, it was meant as half comical, but only half.

Perhaps here on this forum its best to only ask the same conventional questions where everyone feels comfortable.

Perhaps delving outside the norm of peoples comfort zones is something I am not very good at.

As for your opinions of me or of others opinions, believe whatever you want.

Neh they're not evil, but it was something I thought too. He didn't bite me.

Hi there again. Thank you for your response. As I said, I didn't mean to be rude. I underlined what I think is a critical portion of your reply. And lol, I agree with your own assessment.

I think I understand where you are heading with your questions. I think I would completely reword the thread titles however. For eg, this thread about owls. You make a valid point that I understand. There is a popular portrayal in secular media of not only owls, but other animals such as cats (particularly black), vultures, rats, hyenas etc as "evil" and unGodly. I would encompass a thread along the lines of:

What do you think of the portrayal of certain animals as "evil" in the secular media? If I did a thread like this, I would point out all the commonly associations of certain animals and start a dialogue with a discussion how all animals are creations of God. I would also include Biblical portrayals of animals such as the serpent and how animals in the Bible can be both portrayed in terms of God and Satan. Eg, a lion which is used to describe Satan as a roaring lion and Jesus as the lion of the tribe of Judah.

What do you think? I just think a little rewording changes your topics into something creative, interesting and not flippant.

I find simplicity in posing the question helps to keep things from becoming convoluted and uninteresting. I was looking for a more direct, practical and instinctual response than a theological / intellectual attempt to establish the goodness or badness of an owl or what have you which seems to go on forever with no real resolve.

I am more familiar with the legends concerning cats and witchcraft. I suppose one could take the story of the serpent in the garden of Eden and draw from that the conclusion that animals can be demonically possessed. Perhaps evil spirits have their favorites species ? It seems doubtful that an entire species would be demonic though.

Owls are mentioned negatively in the Bible because of Molech as someone mentioned already.
