  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, I for one wasn't aware that Jericho had been found, so I found it interesting.

It's one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. No one ever denied that it existed.

It's not like Troy, which historians and archaeologists thought was mythical until it was discovered.

This is not news to the 20,000 people who live there.

Even if this is the same Jericho that was written about in the Bible that does not make the Bible story about it true. At best all that we can verify is that this city was attacked and probably taken over by a conquering army in the past. But simply because the city exists is no reason to believe that trumpet blasts took the wall down.

I clearly explained that there are people that I have met on the Internet who claim that most of the Biblical content found in the OT is myth. I also clearly explained that although the discovery mentioned in the video is old there are those who don't keep up with such things and would benefit from it.

I didn't realize this was up for debate.
Perhaps because you don't come across too many people who claim that the Bible doesn't contain actual historical facts but is mostly worthless myth? There are even ignorant folks out there who are asking whether the entire Bible should be taken literally or symbolically. So I guess you aren't aware of the profundity of biblical ignorance that exists.

Much of the Bible is myth. That does not mean that all of it is myth. Literalists tend to have an allor nothing mentality. Please do not project that onto others.

Neither the Archeologists in the video nor I claim that the Mere Existence of the city proves that trumpet blasts were responsible for the collapse of the wall.

Good. I never claimed that all of the Bible was wrong. I don't think anyone here has.

That sounds like a strawman. Who has made that claim?

When you hear the word “myth” associated with the Bible, what is the first thought that comes to your mind?

Many use the term myth in a pejorative sense to mean that the stories described are not factually true. Others define myth as non-historical tales that contain a moral message.

Reading the Bible as mythology is not a new concept. ....Origen (185-254 AD) and Augustine (354-430 AD), both interpreted Genesis metaphorically, rejecting literal interpretations.

I didn't accuse you personally of saying that the entire Bible is wrong. As for your experience with people at this website, that is your personal experience as opposed to mine.

Typical literalist approach. The Bible is neither fact nor fiction but somewhere in between instead since it is a mixture of the two.

You will almost always be wrong if you insist on a black and white world.
I don't take a black or white stance in reference to the Bible or the world. Anything else?

Perhaps you have debated some elsewhere that had that belief, though I find it dubious to say the least.
