  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What is your field of study?

Have you taken any other foreign language? and when was the last time you took english grammar?
I am majoring in Criminology and minoring in Psychology and Spanish. I have taken about five classes of Spanish, so I am considered fluent. I haven't completely decided what I want to do for a career, but have narrowed it down to possibly getting into Criminology work on the federal level, being a counselor for at-risk youth, or becoming a forensic interviewer.

I am currently taking my last English gen ed this semester.

I know that it's rather difficult to learn. However, with the spanish that you have and some english, it might not be THAT difficult.

The problem with language learning is that you must learn your own language as well. You need to be come better in your own language to understand how to translate the words, etc.

I'd say go for it. For many reasons.

1. Arabic has obvious 9/11 implications with a Criminology major.

2. It would challenge you in a greater way

3. The coolness factor of saying, I know Arabic.

4. Apologetically speaking, being able to look at the Qu'ran and read it to compare it to the Bible.

5. Being able to have one more group of people that you can evangelize.

Has anyone taken any courses in arabic? I am thinking of taking a class next semester in Arabic, but I haven't decided yet. It could give me a huge advantage in my field if I took some classes in it.

For those who have, is it a hard class to take?

I haven't taken Arabic before but I have taken a course in Hebrew. Compared to my Greek courses, Hebrew was much more difficult.

Arabic is similar to Hebrew, and may be interesting but hard. These types of languages do not easily crossover with the Western mind like Spanish or French do.

It's hard to explain it but your mindset has to be very different when learning a middle eastern language than a European language because there is a great difference in their approach to grammar.

Blessings,

Justin
