  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a Douay- rheims in basement and use a King James on my computer ; I do not have a problem with the 7 extra books , was raised Roman Catholic . The last 10 years I have been a memeber of a Protestant Word of Faith Church .

Many say that Luther started the reformation , took out the apocrypha , etc. which is not the case .

Few people on the RCC side even know all the players in the Reformation : Zwlingli , Calvin , Wycliffe , Huss , Luther , Ferill , Zinzendorf ,etc.

Some say Jerome who went back and made the Vulgate , Latin version , from the original languages , said they were " works of a lesser nature - deuterocanoconical texts " , not to be used for doctrine .

When Baruch , Sirach , and Wisdom were used to substantiate doctrine ( what Jerome and some of the fathers spoke against ) reformers removed and catholics left .... was the spin I got to date ...

I would prefer that the NAB , DR , and Catholic authorized versions , had them between the covenants , where most of the original english versions placed them , instead of scattered throughout the Old Covenant ....

would make it easier to dialogue between catholic and protestant .... if books were set up similar or as a parallel bible was ...

Well, Luther did start the Reformation and was the one who rejected the apocrypha as an inspired work.

Did luther add the apocryypha as an appendix? Was it identified as seprate reading materal.
I'm not sure how he ordered it, I know for a long time it was included in a seperate section of the bible.
